General Ed: How to Avoid Getting Shot by a Police Officer.

"How to Avoid Getting Shot by a Police Officer

Even if you have done something wrong, there is no reason to be shot by a police officer -- that is, unless you give them one. Here are some ways to avoid personal harm in situations with a police officer that has their gun drawn.
Steps

1. Stop. Do not move unless directed by the officer. At this point, any movement you make that is unexpected is one step closer to getting shot.
2. Keep Your Hands In Clear View. If the police officer cannot see your hands, he or she will assume you are going for a weapon. This can lead to you getting shot.
3. Follow Directions. The officer will tell you exactly what he or she wants you to do. That typically includes putting your hands on the back of your head, walking backwards toward the sound of their voice, or lying down on the ground. Do it. At this point you've either already broken the law and don't need to make it worse on yourself, or you are the victim of a misunderstanding and need to cooperate to help prove your innocence.
4. Do not Talk. Chances are good that there is not much you can say to help the situation. If you are at gunpoint, you are well on your way to being arrested, and there is not much you can say to stop that from happening. There will be plenty of time to talk once you are in cuffs and no longer considered a threat.
5. Go Slow. Sudden movements make officers nervous, and nervous officers are more likely to pull triggers than non-nervous officers.
6. Don't Brandish a Weapon. If you have got a gun or knife in your pocket or waistband, leave it alone. The officer would much rather find it on his or her own than have you whip it out and wave it around.
7. Let Yourself be Handcuffed. Yes, the officer may be more aggressive than the situation requires, but retaliation or struggling is only going to result in serious injury.

Tips

* Avoid the situation entirely by obeying the law and staying out of situations in which such an occurrence might come up. "

9. Plain clothes cop should show badge when pointing gun so you don't run.

Problem #1 with that is that they have the drop on you, and probably have body armor.

Overall, this is a very good list. I feel NO sympathy when these idiots get shot by cops when they are being stupid.

Yes, cops use too much force. Mostly because they are dealing with idiots that may try and kill them at any moment. Can't say that I would be any better, in fact I would probably be worse....

armed with this knowledge, I should never get shot by a cop now

Interesting...so all of the cop killings of unarmed people is justified.

Can't wait for your advice to all of the people wrongfully convicted of crimes.

Some people are cops worshipers.
Once their first grade teacher told them to beware of strangers and trust a cop they never looked back.

It takes a certain amount of sophistication for a person to realize that cops are people(not robots) and make mistakes just like the people they arrest.
Cop worshipers don't have this quality, they are still stuck in the first grade.

Don't answer the door holding the controller from the PS3 you just stole, or it's go time.

#As much as possible, try to avoid eye contact.

#Don't forget the word 'officer' at the start and end of every statement.

Don't be a STUPID black that escalates a routine traffic stop into a shooting incident by "keepin' it real" and ignoring the above advice.
