The Gears commercial uses the very popular cover of "Mad World" by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews, originally by Tears for Fears (via iTunes). This particular "Mad World" cover first appeared on the Donnie Darko soundtrack (via iTunes). The Gary Jules "Mad World" cover became so popular (far beyond the Donnie Darko film itself), it was the number one single in the UK in December 2003, two years after the Donnie Darko film was released. The song has appeared in commercials for the F/X show Thief and in the soundtracks of Mr Harvey Lights a Candle, CSI, Without a Trace and several other TV shows.
