Florida in championship is bullshit.

Michigan should be there. This proves once again we need a fucking playoff.

crazies 12-03-2006 06:22 PM

Dude they already lost to Ohio give it up

juz 12-03-2006 06:28 PM

Who has Michigan beat to earn a spot in the championship game? Their only claim to fame for this season is "We lost the #1 ranked team"

DateDoc 12-03-2006 06:29 PM

I'm happy to see FL get a chance. Going to be a good game!

SkinMerchant 12-03-2006 06:29 PM

Nobody wants to see Michigan lose to OSU again.

Go Gators.

I am chauncy 12-03-2006 07:00 PM

Who has Michigan beat ???

lets see

Central Michigan 12-1 MAC champions
Notre Dame who only lost to who Michigan and USC
Wisconsin 11-1 ranked #8 (but florida beats the number 8 team and that is better than michigan beating the #8 team)
Penn State who's 4 losses were to top 10 teams

michigan losses to Ohio state by 3 at ohio state on a shitty field

but lets compare apples to apples

Michigan 27 Vanderbuilt 7 in a convincing win

Florida 25 Vanderbuilt 19 florida sneeks out a win late

anyone who thinks Michigan isn't getting robbed is just plain stupid

J_SexBankRoll 12-03-2006 07:02 PM

i look forward to the day with a playoff system

Doesnt matter. Ohio will kill either of them. I am just pissed that Chris Leak will get to see a national championship game.

yah, it is kinda bullshit... the BCS had them both even at like .940 and the coaches poll and i forget the other one picked florida only because their coach was whining for the past two weeks.

collegeboobies 12-03-2006 07:17 PM

Florida is a badass team. It will be a close game. The SEC is as tough as it gets playing on the road anything can happen.

I am chauncy 12-03-2006 07:24 PM

neither team play an easy schedule but if you are both one loss teams you both have quality wins against 2 or more top 10 teams you share only one common team on your schedule wouldn't the quality of that win be the catalyst of who was the better team?

Michigan got left out because people did not want to see a rematch. I don't agree with this, but that is what happened. Florida had a harder schedule but Michigan lost to #1 by only 3 points. Florida lost to #11. Florida came very close to losing to an unranked South Carolina team, florida blocked SC's last second FG that if they would have made it Florida would have lost the game. Like you mentioned you also have like opponents to look at, Michigan beat Vandy a lot better then Florida did, which was a close game by the way for Florida.

If OSU and Mich wouldn't have played each other in the regular season Michigan would have been in.

Jensen 12-03-2006 07:25 PM

so why the heck can't x teams play eachother home and away in a league? Fair and square all the way... the US is weird when it comes to sports setup...

Yes...lets compare apples to apples...

Michigan: 2-1 vs Ranked Opponents

Florida: 3-1 vs Ranked Opponents

Central Michigan was NOT 12-1...they were 7-4 with losses to Northern Illinois and Ball State. I sympathize with Michigan fans but come on....if you're going to use this as a feather in your cap you don't deserve to be in the BCS Champsionship.

Here's the question I ask myself...

If Michigan and Florida were to play 10 times, do I feel I could give one team or the other an "edge". The truth is that I wouldn't be surprised at all if it went one way or the other...

So with that being said; I've seen Michigan play Ohio State and lose. They lost by 3 but you're kidding yourself if you genuinely think it was that close. I hear about how great of a game it was. It was an intense game but Ohio St. was CLEARLY in control.

I think Ohio St. will beat either team but I'd rather see someone new from a totally different conf., region, style, and way of life take their shot.

Southern football VS. Big Ten football

This is what its all about. And Michigan vs. USC is a great match up btw as long as the correct USC team comes to play

Yeah, it seems that this is what it comes down to, and its bullshit. I am a Penn State fan, but I want to see the best two teams play and those teams are Michigan vs. Ohio State. No doubt.

collegeboobies 12-03-2006 08:19 PM

Michigan had a chance and didnt grab it. Their loss... Would Ohio State still be in if they lost? Probably, maybe... maybe not.

J_SexBankRoll 12-03-2006 08:20 PM

also not playing these last two weeks kinda hurt michigan

spanky part 2 12-03-2006 08:21 PM

College football is bs.
They need a playoff. Look at last years pro football champion the Steelers.

At the end of last season they wouldn't have been ranked in the top 10, but they won the championship.

There are some 2 loss teams that would clean Ohio states clock in a playoff game. Shit who did Ohio state play? Kalamazoo state and central illinois beuaty school. If it's all about the record, then it should be Ohio state vs Boise state as they are undefeated.

I hate this bcs shite.

cosis 12-03-2006 08:29 PM

Michigan had a shot, even though we had 3 turnovers Michigan still couldn't beat us. Ohio State will beat Florida, Troy Smith is the fucking man!

AmateurWealth 12-03-2006 08:31 PM

nick3131 12-03-2006 10:34 PM

hhahahahahahahaha

thats all I can say to Michigan fans

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

you whiny whores :)

Oh and btw, noone gave OSU a chance against Miami. Florida will be ready to play, and they are better then people think. Don't be surprised if we pull this one off.

Axeman 12-04-2006 12:47 PM

First off, there should be a playoff system because all other debate about who is better is pure speculation. Teams play different schedules, conferences and therefor its very hard to compare apples to oranges and "know" who is the best.

All I know for sure is Ohio State is better than Michigan as the game told me that. I love that Michigan fans say we only lost by 3. True, but everyone knows that the last TD came in the meaningless time caused by a bad snap giving Michigan the illusion of a closer game than it was. Anyone outside Michigan and Ohio clearly saw that the game was never in doubt. If not for Ohio's self inflicted turnovers in the game which Michigan had nothing to do with causing, the game was a blowout.

Now look at the schedules. Mich played Wisconsin, ND and Ohio St. That is all they played. ND is highly overrated as shown by the blowout losses they took and will get crushed by LSU to end their year. Wisconsin's only game of toughness came against Michigan which they lost. And Ohio St. beat Michigan.

Florida played Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Tennesse and lost only to Auburn by 10. But if you watched that game, it was closer than that and really was a homer forward pass call from going the other way. Florida State and Georgia are down years, but rivalry games are always tough no matter what, just ask USC.

Florida played 6 ranked teams this year. Michigan played 3.

Florida played 9 bowl teams. Michigan played 6.

The common game they both played was Vandy. However both teams won, but Florida played the game on the road, and Michigan played them at home.

Mich fans like to say that Florida barely won their games. True some games were very close. But if you play 5 straight tough in conference games, you are going to play some close games. Florida jumped out to early big leads in each one and then tried to protect the lead. Do I agree with that strategy, nope, but they won. And when point to South Carolina game, remember who the other coach is. That is a rivalry game now because of Spurrier.

And lets not forget the trouncing that Michigan placed on Ball State. At least when Florida played the weaker teams like UCF and Western Carolina, they kicked their ass.

Reality is both teams had one loss. Florida had an extra win. Michigan just lost to Ohio State and proved they were not better, so the only logical thing to do when you have two 1 loss teams is give the other team the shot to beat OSU.

Is Michigan better than Florida? Who's knows, they didnt play each other or the same schedules. Only two ways to find out. 1. Florida plays Michigan which isnt going to happen, or 2. Florida plays OSU and beats them.

BCS is shit and a playoff needs to be put in no matter what. But Michigan had their shot this year and failed. Now its Florida's turn to see what they can do.

Should be a good game though. Ohio State is very good but they played a cupcake schedule themselves with Texas, Michigan, Penn State and Iowa as their tough games. Texas had an off year and is #18, Michigan they beat and is #3, Penn State is unranked and a 4 loss team who got shitkicked by ND, and Iowa who is 6-6 this year.... So OSU looks mighty good, but they didn't play anyone outside the Big 10 this year who could prove so...

Fat Panda 12-04-2006 12:49 PM

michigan should be there but either way the buckeyes are winning...fuck florida

Got Porn? 12-04-2006 12:51 PM

The Gators won the SEC, did Michigan win the Big Ten???

A team that doesn't win their own conference shouldn't be in the National Championship Game.

gatorpower 12-04-2006 12:54 PM

Copy and Paste Stats

Here are the cold hard facts....a no brainer in fact if you get down to it.

Stats before the SEC Championship game:

1. Florida beat nine teams that are projected to play in bowl games. Michigan beat six

2. Michigan played and defeated five teams that finished the season
with losing records. Florida only played and defeated two teams with
sub-.500 records

3. Florida's 12 Division I-A opponents had a combined record of 89-57. Michigan's 12 opponents had a combined record of 84-61

4. Michigan's best win is considered a 27-13 victory over Wisconsin on
Sept. 23. The Badgers are 11-1 and have climbed to No. 5 in the AP Top
25 poll, despite having played only ONE ranked opponent -- the
Wolverines -- the entire season. Florida's best win is considered to be
its 23-10 win over LSU on October 7. The Tigers are 10-2 and are ranked
#4 in both polls. They have played four ranked teams and beaten two.
All four of those games were on the road.

5. The 12 teams Florida defeated finished the season with 11 combined
wins against opponents which were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the
time the game was played. The opponents Michigan defeated claim just
three wins against ranked teams; Notre Dame beat Penn State, Indiana
beat Iowa, and Vanderbilt beat Georgia. The Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes,
and Bulldogs it should be noted, haven't been ranked in seven weeks.

6. The Gators went 3-1 against ranked opponents, beating then #13
ranked Tennessee, #9 ranked LSU, and #8 ranked Arkansas and losing at
#11 Auburn. The Wolverines went 1-1 against ranked opponents, beating a
highly overrated (what's new) #2 ranked Notre Dame team (that lost to
Michigan and USC by a combined total of 46 points!!) and losing at #1
ranked Ohio State 42-39 on Nov. 18. Notre Dame hasn't won a bowl game
since 1994!!!

7. The Gators' average margin of victory against Division I-A teams was
13.5 points. They won seven games by 14 points or fewer, six by less
than 10. The Wolverines' average margin of victory was 17.3 points.
They won six games by 14 points or fewer, two by less than 10

8. The Gators played Western Carolina, a Division I-AA team, and won by
62 points. The Wolverines played Ball State - which should be a I-AA
team - and only won by eight points

9. Since the Wolverines last played and lost at Ohio State, the Gators
won at Florida State (The Seminoles are 6-6, but rivalry games are
tough to win. Just ask USC coach Pete Carroll) and then beat the No. 8
Razorbacks in the SEC Championship Game, who defeated then #2 ranked
Auburn and #13 ranked Tennessee by 17 points each

10. Michigan didn't win the Big Ten; Florida won the SEC. Winning your
conference should be a prerequisite for playing in the National
Championship. Second best doesn't count.

11. Michigan is 1-6 in their last 7 games against Ohio State. In their
matchup a few weeks ago, Ohio State committed FIVE turnovers against
Michigan, yet Michigan still lost the game.
----------------------------

Everyone talks about how BAD the Florida OFFENSE has been this season.
I guess those people have NOT noticed these statistics. These are from
BEFORE the SECCG.

Offensive TD's Scored:

FLORIDA - 44

USC - 43

Michigan - 41

Average Yards per Play:

FLORIDA - 6.51

USC - 5.95

Michigan - 5.64

Top 25 Defenses Faced:

FLORIDA - 5 (will be 6 after SECCG Saturday)

Michigan - 3

USC - ZERO

Losses to UNRANKED teams:

USC - 1

FLORIDA - ZERO

Michigan - ZERO

Losses to Top 10 teams:

FLORIDA - 1

Michigan - 1

USC - ZERO

So it must be a problem with UF's "defense", you say?

Scoring Defenses:

FLORIDA is #4 Nationally (allowing 12.3 per game)

Michigan is #9 Nationally (allowing 14.6 per game)

USC is #13 Nationally (allowing 15.1 per game)

---------------------------------------------------------

How good is the "lowly" SEC this year???

~ The SEC is 3-1 vs the PAC 10 including,

UT 35 - UCal 17. UT was up 35-0 late in the 3rd quarter and called off the dogs. Blowout!

Auburn 40 - Wash. State 14. Blowout! Yet USC only beat Wash. State
28-22 and had to throw into the endzone on the last play to win the
game.

LSU 45 - Arizona 3. Blowout! Yet USC only beat Arizona by about 7 points.

~ The SEC is 5-1 vs the ACC including,

Unranked SC Gamecocks beat ranked Clemson

Unranked Georgia beat ranked Ga. Tech

ALL SIX big SEC programs (UF, UGA, UT, Bama, Auburn, LSU) have WINNING records against current Big 10 AND PAC 10 teams.

Three SEC teams are ranked in the Top 10, and one is ranked #13 and another #18.

The PAC 10 (more like the "Lack 10") only has two ranked teams. #5 USC
and UCal who is about 20th or so in the polls and has 3 losses. USC
lost to UNRANKED Oregon State and UCLA.

The Big 10 (more like the "Big Two") has three ranked teams. #1 OSU, #3
Michigan (only quality wins: WEAK ND and Wisconsin) and #5 Wisconsin
(ZERO wins against ranked opponents). Overrated Notre Dame has only
beat ONE ranked opponenet (Ga. Tech) in two years!! Michigan did not
defeat a single team that played and won against a ranked opponent.
Penn State is 8-4 with no wins over ranked opponents.

By comparison, the University of Florida defeated 4 teams that beat at least one ranked opponent.

~ Number of SEC Bowl teams: 9

~ Number of Pac 10 Bowl teams: 8

~ Number of Big 10 (11) Bowl teams: 7

~ SEC OOC record: 41-7 (.854)

~ Big 10 OOC record: 33-12 (.733)

~ Pac 10 OOC record: 21-9 (.700)

~ SEC OOC wins/scores against Bowl teams from BCS conferences:

UF 21 - FSU 14

UT 35 - Cal 18

UGA 15 - GT 12

USC 31 - Clem 28

AU 40 - WSU 14

LSU 45 - Ariz 3

Hawaii is not from a BCS conference but they did lose to Alabama 25-17. Twelve weeks later Hawaii defeats Purdue 42-35.

The SEC has the best winning percentage by far against OCC opponents.
Florida has played the toughest schedule in the entire country based on
NCAA and BCS data. Ohio State's schedule is ranked #39 behind pretty
much the entire SEC, ACC, and Big East......

How good is the SEC? Well the Big 10 and Big12 are still the "Big Two".
The SEC has seen LSU, Bama, UT, and Florida all win national titles
since the 1990's. Auburn went undefeated two years ago but wasn't
allowed to play for the NC. Big 10 teams have a combined record of
22-35 against SEC teams in bowl games.

I'm a Big Michigan Fan, and we all new when the Mich/Ohio St game started, the winner was going to the Championship. Yes, it was an away game, and anyone will tell you the turf was horrible and changed a lot of plays, but the truth is after the game we knew Michigan had it's chance and didn't win. So good luck Florida, it's your turn, and congrat's to OSU on a great year so far.

HOWEVER, HERE IS MY GRIPE, AND SHOULD BE EVERYONE'S GRIPE.....

The BCS is flawed, it has been and always will be. The only ones who like it are the University Presidents, as the fans, coaches, and most importantly THE PLAYERS, hate it!!!!

It is the ONLY college sport that doesn't have a playoff, and the ones to benefit are large corporations. TV wouldn't be hurt by playoffs as March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournament has shown.

The ones who are hurt the most are the players, who didn't get the chance to prove they were the best. Imagine being in a sport where someone's opinion determined the winner.

I can't tell you whether Michigan or Florida is better, because we will never know!!! But imagine a game between them to find out.

My other pet peeve is why #11 10-2 Notre Dame goes to a BCS Bowl, but #8 11-1 Wisconsin gets left out....Once again, $$$, to corporations, but the players who do all the work get shafted.

Wondering if players can start a class action lawsuit to the BCS for their denial at a chance at the national championship which would surely affect their draft position in the NFL.....

Agreed a playoff is a must. Its a joke there isnt one, as its impossible to speculate who is better when they play in different conferences and schedules.

As for ND, I agree 100% but the problem is the BCS only allows 2 teams per conference to play in the BCS games. Ohio took one, Mich took the other, which leaves Wisconsin out. Same can be said about the SEC, FL takes one, LSU the other, so Ark is out.

And I don't disagree with that part of the BCS.

This would be GREAT although if a playoff scenario was formed it would almost have to be between each conference's winner and with that being said Michigan would have been knocked out by Ohio (No pun intended)

It looks like Wisconsin gets left out because they decided to play a div-II schedule this year :(

Craig T 12-04-2006 02:45 PM

Easy Answer, Yes, Conference Champions qualify, but you could have to have 4 at large teams for Independents and teams like Michigan, LSU, Auburn, and Notre Dame all in the top 12)

BUT, If you only had conference champions I would still be fine with it!!!

2nd Answer... Wisconsin is ranked #8, their schedule was included in that ranking.... The ONLY reason they got left out was because of Notre Dame's fans. Notre Dame's schedule was even worse. Army, Airforce, Navy, c'mon This is why we need a playoff... I think that is what we can all agree on!

Michigan had a lot harder time with Wisconson, they they did ND...

Moe 12-04-2006 02:45 PM

tOSU had to play on the same field so that complaint is moot, but if you want to roll with it how about this. ND/USC last year, ND overgrew their grass to slow down USC and the Trojans still won, and you know why the still won?
Becasue that is what championship teams do, they overcome adversity and win.

I'm not bitter that OSU won, I give them credit for growing the grass out, and practicing on it for the week. That is what home field is all about....

Here me clearly.... MY ONLY BEEF IS THAT THERE ISN'T A DEFINED PLAYOFF.... the point is that there is no clear #1 vs. #2 and these issues come up EVERY YEAR...

Heck forget about players who rightfully should sue the BCS, we as fans should sue the BCS for clear infringements on our right to see a playoff when all other college sports including Division II and III football programs have playoffs.

BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS.....

dooglas 12-04-2006 03:12 PM

Michigan doesn't deserve to be in one bit. They played a weaker schedule, lost to the team who is undefeated and didn't win their conference. It comes down to this...if Michigan wanted to play in the national championship..they should have won in Columbus. Florida is very deserving and have a good chance of winning.

4Pics 12-04-2006 03:13 PM

I'd glad someone else gets to play, I don't think I would watch it if it was Michigan again.

But seriously they need a playoff system.

Either way it was going to be Michigan or Florida getting screwed. Impossible to say one team is better than the other without them playing each other. All other is speculation and looking at the facts and deciding who to reward. And the reality is when you add it up, Florida looks stronger than Michigan. If Michigan had lost to Ohio State in week 3, and then went on to crush 2-3 ranked opponents after and ran the table it may be different.

Playoff fixes the doubt, but it is what is right now.

I hardly ever watch college fball because all that bowl stuff confuses the hell out of me.

I like playoff systems.

Dear Gator Power, you fucking idiot,

Everything anyone needs to know about the statistics you used is shown by you stating that UF had 44 offensive touchdowns scored prior to the SEC championship game.

They scored 8 of those against Western Carolina. Interesting that you recognize the lack of validity of that game elsewhere (and Ball State would assrape Western Carolina), but forget to distinguish in this case.

It's probably because these are all cut and paste jobs from other message boards, as opposed to your own thoughts.

But nice work showing how full of shit you are and how bad you are with statistics. Guess you count em how you count em when you need to count em.

Good work, asshole.

You suck, Chris Leak sucks and the Gators suck.

Florida played in the SEC, which is by far the toughest division in college football. The SEC had 5 teams in the top 10. So their strength of schedule was harder. However, Michigan's only lost came to Ohio state, IN Ohio by only 3 points. They took the #1 team in the country to the very limit while on the road, while Florida lost to Auburn by 10 and struggled with Arkansas. The logical thing(and everybody in this country knows it), would be to have Michigan and Florida play a playoff. I personally feel Michigan is better than florida and are more deserving. We already saw an instant classic once, why not have a rematch? But that's just my opinion. I've always hated the BCS rules..

There is only one thing worse than living in Michigan and that is living in Ohio.
Both teams suck.
