The fucking problem with "other" boards
 

I freely admit..... I frequent a few other boards.... make a few "appearances"... many actually... regularly? No. But I do visit them.... . and I've given them advice on what's good and what's bad..... not that they fucking listen to me, but I give it anyway...... and the main problem is not, how "cool" their board is, or how "serious" or "business oriented" or how much shit they give away, or any of that crap...... each board is cool in it's own right..... each has it's own "personality"..... but that they seriously lack activity. (clue here... grab it while ya can)

When I post, or I visit (read).... I wanna see new shit.

Period.

I wanna see some sign of fucking life or I'm fuckin' movin' on. Doesn't matter if it's a real reply or a dumbass remark..... anything will do. And every other board out there is lacking that one element. And they just can't seem to grasp the concept that that is what's required......

I always drop by other boards to answer questions or learn a quick thing or two if anything is actually posted, but I haven't gotten into any other board like I have with GFY. It's a plague...

There are some good webmasters hangin on some of those boards though, no question. Fact is, some people feel that if you want to fuck around you come here, but if you want to ask a serious question and <i> NOT </i>get a dozen posts consisting of "format:c" and retarded insulting shit then you go to certain other boards.

Maybe a few of us should learn to shut our smartass holes and try some intelligence for a change.

I think more business goes on at this board then you guys think. There is no other board that has as many big players in the business posting regularly. I have nothing against the other boards and they all have their perks but my business is due to my contacts on GFY.

i couldn't believe what i saw at the Vancouver webmaster convention last week. In the seminar room, every other monitor was glued to GFY in the middle of the lectures. Here were all these webmasters in one room during a big conference and they couldn't pry themselves away. Taught me where to find the action and meet industry people.

Hmmm Amp you started a very interesting thread here, concidering that you have a board yourself. I have a board also- We talk smack a lot, fun it is ran by two women and we are nuts over there, (by the way the pics you wanted are up Amp) but we have fun.

I come to GFY because of making contacts and business because I own a design site. Lens let's more slide here and lets you try to do business, some of the other boards yell at ya and have pissing matches about trying to do business on thier boards.

This is the most heavy posted board on the web I bet. Easily...

Yeah sometimes there is a lot of shit on this board, but I have also made a lot of contacts on this board.

So I would agree with Amp and say that this board keeps moving and is a great business resource for people.

I've frequented several other boards for the last two years and have watched all of them suffer serious declines.

Two years ago the newbie board I started out on would have 30-50 posts an hour on average, even overnight. Last time I visited that place it had gotten as bad as 1 post in 5 hours, and the TGP board is more like 1 post every 5 days.

I think alot of the resources will be consolidating or closing down over the next year or two. The business is no longer newbie friendly, thus no supply of fresh faces to keep many of those places active.

it's pretty simple, all the other boards bore the shit out of me. like amp said, you want to see reaction.

this board is a great way to help pass the long hours of work each day. that's the primary reason i post here...

I got my own interests at stake... but as always, truth prevails with me..... and the truth is GFY is kicking everyone's ass as far as boards go...... has been since it's inception. When I wanna post without argument, I post on my board, because I can censor the replies...... when I wanna post for real, I post here. (which is 99.9% of the time) And my approach is as it was from day 1: post my viewpoint, and fuck the consequences. Always figgered, if I get banned for my views, then so be it....... utterly amazing to me that I've come this far without a single ban to date. :winkwink:

I have never been banned. Why is that? Why have those other people you speak of been banned? Why have they been repeatedly banned?

For bringing in the business this board out preforms it's nearest rival by two to one.

As I said before this board has a lot of "court jesters" that keep the place lively and the big players coming.

You know Amp I think part of it is that unless your cheating or stealing you can pretty much speak your mind here. I mean ya people get banned but what are they doing here? Stealing and Cheating. Hands down this board is where you find a lot of people in the business for sure.

I don't know GFY is a good way to waste time and watch people fight and piss and moan-but also meet those you need to make it all work for you.

I think there will always be a need for webmaster newbie boards. Martin runs a great message board called Sarcastic Bastards. It is a very open community to newbies and probably the best place to get newbie questions answered.

I think most of us here are too busy and or non-tolerante to answer newbie questions. Most of us here have had to work and figure things out for ourselves and we hate to see people steal and or jump on our hard worked for business.

I am not afraid of newbies entering our business or even lending a hand to an up and comer. As long as they are willing to listen and work for everything they get. I'm not worried about them cutting into my piece of the pie. I think Larry Flynt said it best "There is always room in the marketplace for individuals that provide quality."

GFY is not about newbs..... GFY is not for the weak. The weak are quickly filtered here. This is a place for pros to cut loose, have some fun, talk some biz, rag on the occasioanl newb with the dumb question..... no denying it, it is what it is. And I support that...... from a newbs point of view, I'm probly one of the biggest assholes to ever grace the Net.... but those who know, know better. I love this place..... I get to talk to real people in the biz, on a relaxed level, (usually) without any stupid pretenses or dumb shit getting in the way. And I'm sure alot of people don't see that, but hey..... I don't fucking care. :)
