Ever been to Maleisia? Planning to go in 2007

Me and my girl are planning to go to Maleisia somewhere next year. We were in doubt between Costa Rica and Maleisia but we decided to go here first.

Anybody ever been there? Planning to visit sumatra, broneo etc in one trip. From what I can find on the interweb it looks awesome.

Make a trip to Singapore. Quite possibly be the cleaniest city in the world.

Kuala Lumpur is incredible.

I believe the flight goes to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam and from there to Kuching (might be wrong on that one). So it might be an idea to spend some time there yes.

I went on a 24 day trip in july-august. It was an unforgettable trip. These were the highlights:
- The national parks and the amazing jungle of Borneo (only place in the world where there are living Oerang Oetangs in the wild). The most beautiful national park was Bako.
- Kuala Lumpur, a great city.
- Cameron Highlands, the mountains of Malaysia with colder temperatures (very welcome after 2 hot weeks). Amazing landscapes tea plantations. If you visit this place, try Daniel's Lodge (no luxuary, but an amazing atmosphere) and go on a jungle trip with Kali, a 64 year old guide nicknamed the Machine of the Jungle.
- The Perhentian Islands (located in the North-East of West-Malaysia). One of the most beautiful places on earth. I will never forget the 4 days I spent there. Great beaches, awesome atmosphere, not many tourists, clear blue water, great parties, ...

But of course, Malaysia has a lot more to offer :)

I'm planning on going to Costa Rica next summer ;)

I want to spend the last 3 days at a good beach, now we can expand the trip and go the last few days to Pangkor Island or Perhentian Island wich should both be great. You been on Pangkor Island? BTW I love to snorkle, any recommendations?

Pryda 12-03-2006 06:14 AM

I haven't visited Pangkor Island during my trip, but the Perhentians are great for snorkling and diving. Underwater visibility up to 20 meters, beautiful coral and tons of fish. I spotted one shark during our snorkling trip :D

If you decide to go to the Perhentians, make sure everything is planned in advance. It's not easy for everyone to arrange transport and accomodation. We had to ask a local from Kota Bahru to arrange ours.
