Never mix beer and wine

What the hell does this phrase refer to? "Never mix beer and wine." I don't get it. What am I missing?

madawgz 12-01-2006 10:15 PM

DamageX 12-01-2006 10:16 PM

It means that you generally end up with a mother of a hangover. So if you wanna avoid the trouble the day after, keep them separated. :winkwink:

RRRED 12-01-2006 10:17 PM

I learned the hard way last night not to mix red wine with shots of blueberry stoli and duck farts :throwup

EdgeXXX 12-01-2006 10:28 PM

I don't wanna talk about it..... :Oh crap

jayeff 12-01-2006 10:46 PM

"Don?t mix the grape and the grain" is the old saying. There is some truth in it not being a good idea to switch drinks during a single session because most have some impurities in them and those from one type of drink don't always react well with those from another.

Red wines in particular contain an interesting pharmacopeia, so cheap red wine and distillations such as port and brandy (which concentrate the impurities) have a good potential for nasty hangovers and such treats as gout for those who imbibe too much too often.

Whats the other one.. Beer before liquor, you couldn't be sicker. But liquor before beer, you're in the clear.. Don't know if its true.

soulbleed 12-02-2006 12:35 AM

Mix if you want to be really jacked up the next day...hahah

There is this saying in Holland ("bier na wijn geeft venijn, wijn na bier geeft plezier") which practically comes down to:
Wine after beer = ok
Beer after wine = bad
Which is said to be because the last option are a great cause for hangovers.

The real definition of it is, that beer was cheap and was only consumed by poor people. Wine was for the wealthy people that actually had money to pay for it. So drinking wine after beer was an upgrade, while beer after wine was a huge step backwards.

leftybogs 12-02-2006 05:11 AM

Feivel 12-02-2006 05:57 AM

true, so true

Peaches 12-02-2006 12:53 PM

I always heard: Beer after Whiskey, mighty risky, whiskey after beer, never fear.

Never heard anything about mixing beer and wine though.

Of course, I don't drink beer anyway and I've had plenty of puking sessions ;)

What kinda crackalaka would do it anyway?

Stick to clear, white spirits and you'll rarely have a hangover. My favorite lately is gin. I knew you all wanted to know..

kristin 12-02-2006 12:57 PM

Because it makes you vomit in parking lots... or at least that's what happened to me last night mixing the two.

Not a good idea.

seeric 12-02-2006 12:58 PM

i've had the worst hangovers of my life when mixing the two on the same night

it goes something like this.

you go to a nice dinner at a great restaurant and have a few glasses of red with your steak, i had 3 glasses or almost a bottle.

then we went next door to the club. started to drink budlights.

holy god did i ever have a throbbing headache the next day.

worse hangover ever. now i have a system jaeger shots and a few vodka redbulls.

Spunky 12-02-2006 12:59 PM

I haven't had wine since I was a kid..bla..hate that shit

Peaches 12-02-2006 01:00 PM

Someone told me the other night to always have a glass of water between each drink and you won't get hungover.

Helps stave off the dehydration which is part of the really nasty hangovers.

Personally I stick to good tequila and don't have many problems. What really messes me up is when I wind up drinking 'floofy' drinks all night. Usually wind up puking up a glob of goo the color of my drinks from the night before... BLEECH!

My favorit mess someone up drink is a Soviet Sunburn. A big shot glass filled to the line with tequila then topped with a citrus vodka. MMMMMM.... Say goodnight Gracie... :thumbsup

jasminexxx 12-02-2006 01:24 PM

mix it and u will understand

reynold 12-03-2006 08:34 AM

Coz that could open up your head to a brand new meaning of BiG Bang theory..

stickyfingerz 12-03-2006 08:38 AM

Grey Goose and redbull most of the night and I dont get hung over at all.

J. Falcon 12-03-2006 08:47 AM

I guess it means you shouldnt mix them.

djroof 12-03-2006 08:49 AM

beer and wine ??? Bliah...

E$_manager 12-03-2006 09:09 AM

You never mixed beer and wine??????

Buzz 12-03-2006 09:18 AM

If you come to mixing alcohol - watch the alcohol percentage of the drink.
If it's higher than the previous' one - it's ok
It's ok if you drink beer (3-5%), then wine (7-14%), then liquor (14-30%), then vodka (40+%) etc.
DONT lower the percentage and everything's fine.

This is a difficult system. Better drink only one drink for one evening.
The worst mix is mix with champagn.

Violetta 12-03-2006 11:59 AM

If you drink shitloads of BOTH, it makes you feel like shit the day after... Worse than if you only drink LOADS of beer.. At least I have it that way

Nydahl 12-03-2006 12:01 PM

far the worst is champain + tullamore Dew - this will kill you in few mins

Project-Shadow 12-03-2006 01:21 PM

Beer and wine, you'll feel fine. Wine and beer, you'll feel queer :P

shekinah 12-03-2006 04:49 PM

All I know when you mixed beer with wine, it will taste different as usual.. hehe

bingo, see you have to move UP the pyramid... beer, wine spirits... once you've hit top, never start going back down lol

aico 12-03-2006 05:31 PM

probably cuz it would taste like shit? I've heard of Beer and Tomato Juice, or Wine & 7-up, but never heard of mixing wine and beer.
