i have the memberarea pix saved outside the web root and get them with php - it slows down the website, but each pic is named: pix.php and most programs dont recognize it as pic

... I kinda doubt it, if the tool is well programmed it shows up as a webbrowser in your logs ... actually, I could think about creating one of those tools (combined with an internet eraser) myself ... should sell great !!!

In theory we could band together and img src the site. With enough adult webmasters helping out I bet we could throw 10 million+ hits a day at them.

I only suggest that because those fucking idiots run a spider that downloads our content and skips the ads. Burns our bandwidth and wastes out money.

I would think people will stop this sort of stuff soon. Since we know have .jpg viruses and other beasties out there for people who just download stuff via a spider. The "pixripper" folks aren't doing mr. surfer any favors...

The first tgp owner who has enough of their spider may put up a surprise for them. You'll get a wave of these people in their support forums charging back.

The downside is that any site that does a check on your pic's i.e. the hun won't let you thru :( So I guess you have to ask yourself if you really think that many people are using web suckers on the TGP's and if your loosing $$$'s. We use it on the paysites that we have trials on so that they can't grab the whole site for a couple of bucks, pisses a lot of the scumbags off that only get a trial to grab the site, but who really gives a fuck what they think :1orglaugh

No shit! Unless they're someone out there with a browser that's actually named "Mozilla by Wal-Mart Made in China" who can do a GET on 100 files a second, I do believe some will let you tell it you want it to look like anything you want it to.

Since in your robots.txt file you have to describe the default for EACH and EVERY damn spider they ever came up with, you're only going to stop people who are too dumb to look at the options in their spider app.

Anyone who knows enough to spider you is probably going to be able to change the name to something you don't already have in there within 2 minutes.

I gave up on the spiders. They're not the ones who REALLY jurt. The ones that piss me off are the ones that hot link to files. One fucker in Holland linked to one of my files and ate up about 5 gigs in one day.

I think I came up with a way to turn that around though. :)

Hell, let's all get the app, and spider the fuck out of his site with it. Isn't there some liability issue with a developer who designs a piece of software designed to steal another developer's product?

People are suing Smith & Wesson because some hozer decided to blow someone away with a product they created, so what's the difference? Someone uses a product to commit a crime, and the original manufacturer of the product gets sued. Isn't America beautiful?

I just think if he were on the RECEIVING end of his own product and had a few thousand people spider his site a day he'd look at it differently.

Then again, I'm just thinking out loud. I'd never advocate such a thing... Uh uh, nope, no way...

Then again, if someone had a lawyer who'd file a suit against the manufacturer for complicity in a crime (enabling theft), that would at least be entertaining.

anyways, this is nothing new, although it is getting worse. we've had to set up some scripts that will temporarily block certain IPs if they spider too much content.

edit:

btw. it won't be long til there is such a program that can take advantage of a central list of open web proxies. (the programmers aren't stupid, so they already know this). a real solution is needed.

perhaps pre-pended unique IDs for each "session". the spider program would have to send the same unique ID for each hit. then you could throttle that unique ID. the only way to get the ID would be to go through the homepage (or some other special link).

for example, you go to http://www.cumoninn.com/index.html and you're redirected to http://www.cumoninn.com/0129738243/index.html

every link on that site (that stays within the site) would need that prepend number. so it'd be a "unique" session ID.

the only way around this would be to write the spider so it loads the home page before it loads any other link beyond it, to generate tons of unique IDs. maybe something could be created to block this too. anyways, it's a start, and this has been a silly brain dump.

im not sure i understand how these programs are legal... true we are giving away porn, but isnt there something else going on when they just dig thru ur server downloading your files without looking at your site or asking permission? i mean technically when a surfer looks at your site they arent specifically saving the files for use later... with this program they are storing your images on their machines...
