Outsourcing -- Opinions, anyone?

I'm sure there have been countless posts just like this one, which could easily be found by searching the forums, but nevertheless, here it goes:

Has anyone had any experience with outsourcing overseas? I mean, I see ads all the time for full-time employees starting at under $400/month.

Like, what the... I charge that for a minimum sized project!

What are your opinions? Is it good? Is it shitty? Please vote above, and let me know what you have found with overseas outsourcing.

It is a valuable tool...however, 60% of people who outsource offshore are unhappy with the result. The reason for this in my opinion is because:

1) They think of it as a quick fix
2) No offshore infrastructure

I realize its tempting to hire a freelancer for $500-$1,000/mo. Or to go with the outsourcing company with the lowest prices.

However, to really have a successful outsourcing experience there is a lot needing to be in place. Strong internet structure, HR Department, Recruitment Department, On-Site administration...etc

A freelancer or low-end offshore outsourcing company cannot provide this at a high enough level. The prices are still extremely manageable with the higher quality firms and the success rates are significantly higher. Its seriously night and day.

My :2 cents:

I agree that going with an outsourcing company isn't the best, especially when overseas. No offense intended, but there are definitely communication barriers when outsourcing to non-FLUENT-English-speaking locations.

Much like Chinese throw-away products...

It's a pretty sad day in North America when not only the products are being imported, but also skilled service :(
