Man Charged With Grilling Alive 8-Week-Old Kitten

Reuters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 16) - A Kansas City-area man was charged with felony animal abuse Tuesday after he and several friends allegedly tortured an 8-week-old kitten by roasting the animal alive in an outdoor grill.

Charles Benoit, 24, of Liberty, Missouri, faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.

Authorities said the incident occurred July 12, when a group of people cheering and making ''meowing'' noises around an outdoor grill at an apartment complex caught the attention of a neighbor, who decided to investigate.

''They told her they were grilling a cat,'' said Jim Roberts, spokesman for the Clay County prosecutors office, which brought the criminal charges.

The woman was able to retrieve the burned kitten from the coals, but the kitten was so badly injured it could not be saved, Roberts said.

Roberts said it had not been determined if others would be charged.

That's a fucked up deal. It happened just a few miles from here. Animal cruelty should be a more severe offense. If someone does something that bad to a defenseless animal, what would they do to someone that pisses them off. They really need to spend some serious time in jail and spend the rest of their lives on probation because they WILL do something like that (or worse) again.

What's almost as fucked up as the cruelty itself are the people who think it's funny or something that should be taken lightly. It's not a laughing matter. People who show no compassion have serious issues too.

floridaT 07-16-2002 02:36 PM

A pet is slightly different than my next hamburger.
I couldn't give a rats ass how they slaughter cows I've never seen, but if they slaughter a dog I've lived with for years and taken care of it.. slightly different, I'd say.

About the twins next door.. good.
Yet, even in the movies I get more sick if an animal is killed than if some guys head gets chopped off with a chainsaw. Animals(pets) and children should be left alone, they can't protect themselfs! :2 cents:

OzKaNoz 07-16-2002 03:21 PM

Man that's fucked up!
I beat the shit out of a guy that took a cat and put in a barrel with lighter fluid. I stopped him just before he was going to light the barrel. The cat was fine and ran off.

You know what kind of screwed up thinking is it to do stuff like that? Frankly I think they should be shot. Sick fuckers.

i'm really pissed about the dog on fire. i found my dog in the middle of the street when he was 3 mo. he was all fucked up and a vet gave me $400 worth of medicine/shots/whatever for $20 and a promise i'd take care of him... best dog i've ever had.
here's a good story about animals

playa 07-16-2002 03:59 PM

there's a difference between domesticated animals like cats and dogs and livestock,,

cats and dogs have been trained to trust humans.
besides i am sure the farmers don't roast the live stock while their alive

Seb From Holland 07-16-2002 04:19 PM

Jeez, you can kill 3 people here for 5 years in prison...

TopTGP 07-16-2002 04:19 PM

Here's where I come out on this.

A group of guys that decide to barbecue a kitten are obviously not right in the head. They are sociopaths, and, therfore, are most likely capable of more horific crimes. If this guy gets 5 years for barbecuing a cat and thinking it was hilarious, then I will be surprised. Its these kinds of people that kidnap 10 year old girls, rape, torture, and murder them. This guy should get life, because he's obviously capable of torturing a living creature, so I see no reason why he would find it any harder to roast a human being.
If he laughs at a dying, burning kitten, whats stopping him from laughing at dying, burning people? Nothing is. I can almost guarantee that when he gets out of prison (if he even goes to prison), he will be charged with a much more serious crime.

He introduced himself into the world of killing living creatures by killing a cat. Now, in my opinion anyway, he is more likely to kill a person, then another cat.

Anyhoo, those were my :2 cents:

funkmaster 07-16-2002 04:39 PM

... in a world where people cuddle puppy cows and puppy pigs in their homes, it wouldnŽt be insane to have a flame grilled cat for dinner.

Let's play a game kids... What's the difference between these two things...

1. Killing, sometimes cruelly, for food

2. Killing and intentionally torturing, for enjoyment

I am glad to see most people here can tell the difference. I am terrified that one or two cannot. However, since I am in that sort of mood, rather than sad for you, I think this sums up how I feel... :321GFY

lawpal 07-16-2002 09:39 PM

ok, so we don't all agree whether a kitty bbq is good or bad.

I agree. Yes, the kitty killer was bad, mmkay. But we're so hypocritical here when it's okay to kill for fun (sport) when there's a law on the books that says it's cool. So many animals are killed for fun and just because some are domesticated doesn't it make it sooo much more heinous than the others. Killing is killing.

edmo 07-16-2002 10:50 PM

I disagree with most of you. The most depressing thing about all of your reactions is the total disregard for the life of man. Five years of a man's life is worth exponentially more than the entire life of a cat or any other animal for that matter. Men have achieved more in one day than animals have for millions of years.

You equate violence directed towards animals as though it were violence against people. You make the killing of an animal nearly as much a crime as a the killing of a man. This is how your psychopaths begin to believe that it's okay to kill people. You raise animals to the level of men. Your belief holds true in both directions. You therefore believe that men are just animals.

So the guy that did torture the cat definitely needs psychological help and probably medication. Maybe even a fine. But life in prison? The death penalty? It's profoundly depressing that the life of a cat has become more valued by society than the life of a man.
