In the US or Canada.
Problem is it's so fucking hard to get a permanent VISA.
Even if you are from northern europe.
Mohammed Atta & friends can stay in the US, but not western europeans, go figure...

Ive been to europe, asia, canada, mexico and pretty every us city and I must say that nothing compares to chicago. great people, food, nightlife, lakefront, skyline, etc.

You never hear anything bad about chicago besides the weather.

I agree. If it wasn't for the weather, I'd probably be living in Chicago. Definitely one of my favorite cities...

i live in chicago too (lincoln park), and i agree that it is a great city, but far from my idea of paradise. the winters suck, and summer days can be way too humid.

if i had to pick one place - santorini, greece.

southern Thailand - dirt dirt cheap, Thai's love to cook yummy food, tropical setting, great beaches and weather, not bad infrastructure (roads, hospitals...), peaceful people.

Madagascar is nice this time of year I'm told.

Well this may seem lame compared to some of the answers, but I've been thinking I'd like to live in mountains somewhere. Like maybe the smokey mountains or something. I think it would kick ass to have a nice lodge-style house up in the mountains with an incredible view and some privacy. Could hook up a satellite dish for high speed net access (well sort of high speed at least better than dialup) and run my company from there.

That sounds great to me!! :)

I live there now and like it a lot. I've lived in the Santa Cruz area of CA, in the resort towns of the Rockies (Breckenridge) and other places in the the US. Mild climate here, no earthquakes, no tornados, no hurricanes, etc. High speed cable is what I use and it is blazing fast most of the time. And yes, the views are spectacular...

As far as living anywhere, I'd want to live in Puerto Viarta (spelling?).

As for living somewhere where I could make money money money, it'd be california.

Paul Markham 07-16-2002 03:41 PM

In Brno, Czech Republic with my wife and baby.

Stop day dreaming lads and make whrere you are, your own Shangrila.

In a beautiful Villa perched above the Mediterranean sea. Blooming Jasmine cascading down every wall, and a Koi filled fountain in the open courtyard.
A quiet white sand beach a barefoot walk away, and the most deliciously loud sunsets every night of the temperately warm year.
A lively local bar and equally eclectic flower shop just down the paven road, and fresh milk delivered to my door every morning with the paper.

...and porn, lots and lots of porn.

Pornwolf 07-16-2002 04:22 PM

I just saw 'Attack Of The Clones' so this is still fresh in my mind, I would have to say Southern Italy or possibly south America with a mediterranian style house on the water like the one Princess Padawan had as a getaway spot!

Paradise found: I'll be living right where I am!

I migrated to from Germany to Australia some 10 years ago, and I still love it!
Great people, beautiful beaches (and not as crowded as they are in Europe, or buit-up shore lines like many places in US and other parts of the world), top weather (where do you get 22 degrees Celsius in winter?), international cuisine and great wine, no cultural differences, good infrastructure, you can still walk the streets at night (unlike Florida, where a cop stopped me, asked my ID and reason for being there, and then strongly recommended to get back into my car...) - only problems: hard to get residency, getting expensive, porn is a no-no (even publishing in the US is walking a thin line).

http 07-16-2002 04:37 PM

Southern France, northern Italy, or Amsterdam

cold_ice 07-16-2002 05:20 PM
