If you're into movies I recommend the PS3, as it has Blue Ray Technology...the Wii is fun for the revolutionary games coming out for it. I've played both and I actually recommend both if you can afford it.
Bottom line: PS3 is strong in movies and games, Wii is strong for fun games...so bottom bottom line: get both. :)

I have it and I think it's pretty cool so far. I own a 360, so with the lack of games, I'm still waiting for the right game to "WOW" me. I own Resistance which is a decent game if you're into FPS. I also have Untold Legends Dark Kingdom which isn't that great. For one, it's a RPG, but there's no towns or stores to visit and the levels get to be long and repetative with very little reward for battling through all of that. Plus to top it off, you can't even change your weapon, only add artifacts to alter it like giving it fire or ice damage. Lastly I own NBA 07, I like the game, the gameplay is smooth and it does look beautiful. Overall I think that the PS3 is a nice system that has a strong future for it, it'll just be a short wait for some of the great games to come out for it, if you have a chance to get one, definately jump on it.

I also own a Wii, but so far I'm up in the air on it. First off, it's not high-def, so it looks shitty on my 40-inch LCD tv whereas the other systems look beautiful. Then there's the game lineup which is filled with kid games. The new nunchuck/remote controller is something different and fun, I played the sports game that came with it and it's definately different using motion to play the games. Excite Truck isn't too bad, it takes a little while getting used to turning your controller to turn rather than hitting a stick, but it's fun. I also just got Zelda, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. On the bright side of the system, it's gonna be nice being able to download (buy) old classic games like Zelda from the Nintendo, I might give that a try later on tonight because I've been itching to play it :) Overall, the Wii doesn't feel like a next-gen console, it just kinda feels like some kind of contraption, which I guess isn't . Perhaps when some adult oriented games come out, I might think a little more of it. Like Nookster said, if you're into movies, the blu-ray is nice, I have the Talladega Nights that came with it and also picked up Ice Age 2 and the picture quality is wonderful.

The one thing that sucks about the new systems is that they only come with component cables (red, white, yellow) rather than composit, WTF ?!?! With my PS3, I had to run to Wal-Mart and drop another $60 for a HDMI cable. For the Wii, they currently don't have any HDMI in the pipelines, only component cables which should be out next month.

Another great option is the Xbox 360. I've had mine for a year now and I do love it, there's a great lineup of games and a good online play service. Until the PS3 puts out some games to impress me, I have to say the Xbox 360 is the best, but like I said before, PS3's time will come, it's just a matter of time for some great games to work their way down the pipeline :)
