Maybe not without Manzarek, but IMO would have done the same without Krieger and Densmore.

mr mojo rox

an american prayer is a cool album dude not heard it for ages

reynold 11-26-2006 07:04 AM

Is this another Josh Groban type of music?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-26-2006 07:28 AM

American Prayer was released several years after Jim Morrison died in Paris. It is unlike any other Doors album.

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

It is both beautiful and haunting, lucid and psychedelic, and full of love and pain. A fitting final testament to Jim Morrison...

http://home.hia.no/~tovei04/bilder/j...son%20copy.jpg

Some lyrics/poems:

CURSES, INVOCATIONS

Curses, Invocations
Weird bate-headed mongrels
I keep expecting one of you to rise
Large buxom obese queen
Garden hogs and cunt veterans
Quaint cabbage saints
Shit hoarders and individualists
Drag strip officials
Tight lipped losers and
Lustful fuck salesman
My militant dandies
All strange orders of monsters
Hot on the tail of the woodvine
We welcome you to our procession

Here come the Comedians
look at them smile
Watch them dance an Indian mile
Look at them gesture
How aplomb
So to gesture everyone
Words dissemble
Words be quick
Words resemble walking sticks
Plant them they will grow
Watch them waver so
I'll always be a word man
Better then a bird man

AN AMERICAN PRAYER -
HOUR FOR MAGIC * FREEDOM EXISTS * A FEAST OF FRIENDS

Do you know the warm progress
under the stars?
Do you know we exist?
Have you forgotten the keys
to the kingdom

Have you been borne yet; are you alive?
Let's reinvent the gods, all the myths
of the ages
Celebrate symbols from deep elder forests
[Have you forgotten the lessons
of the ancient war]
We need great golden copulations

The fathers are cackling in trees
of the forest
Our mother is dead in the sea

Do you know we are being led to
slaughters by placid admirals;
that fat slow generals are getting
obscene on young blood
Do you know we are ruled by T.V.

The moon is dry blood beast
Guerrilla bands are rolling numbers
in the next block of green vine
amassing for warfare on innocent
herdsman who are just dying

O great creator of being
grant us one more hour to
perform our art; perfect our lives

The moths; atheists are doubly divine; dying
We live, we die; death not ends it
Journey we more into the
Nightmare

Cling to life
Our passion'd flower
Cling to Cunts; cocks
of despair
We got our final vision
by clap
Columbus groin got
filled w/green death
(I touched her thigh; death smiled)

We have assembled inside this ancient; insane theatre
To propagate our lust for life;
flee the swarming wisdomof the streets
The barns are stormed
The windows kept; only one of all the rest
To dance; save us
With the divine mockery
of words

Music inflames temperament
(When the true King's murderers
are allowed to roam free
a 1000 Magicians arise in the land)

Where are the feasts
we are promised
Where is the wine
The New Wine
(dying on the vine)
resident mockery
give us an hour for magic

We of the purple glove
We of the starling flight; velvet hour
We of arabic pleasures's breed
We of sundome; the night
Give us creed
To believe
A night of lust
Give us trust in
The Night
Give us color
hundred hues
a rich mandala
for me; for you; for your silky
pillowed house
a head, wisdom; a bed

Troubled decree
Resident mockery
has claimed thee
We used to believe
in the good old days
We still receive
In little ways
The things of Kindness; unsporting brow
Forget; allow

Did you know freedom exists
in school books
Did you know madmen are
running our prisons
within a jail, within a gaol
within a white free protestant
maelstrom

We're perched headlong
on the edge of boredom
We're reaching for death
on the end of a candle
We're trying for something
that's already found us

Wow, I'm sick of doubt
Live in the light of certain south
Cruel bindings
The sevants have the power
dog-men; their mean women
pulling poor blankets over
our sailors

I'm sick of dour faces
Staring at me from the T.V.
Tower, I want roses in
my garden bower; dig?
Royal babies, rubies
must now replace aborted
Strangers in the mud

These mutants, blood-meal
for the plant that's plowed
they are waiting to take us into
the severed garden
Do you know how pale; wanton thrillful
comes death on a stranger hour
unannounced, unplanned for
like a scaring over-friendly guest you've
brought to bed

Death makes angels of us all; gives us wings
where we had shoulders
smooth as raven's claws

No more money, no more fancy dress
This other kingdom seems by far the best
until its other jaw reveals incest;
loose obedience to a vegetable law
I will not go
Prefer a feast of friends
To the Giant family

Glad you think so but you're wrong. Sure Krieger had a unique sound but without Morrison we would have never heard of him. Matter of fact none of them would have done anything without Morrison and they havent done anything since he died except ride his coat tail by putting out a dozen greatest hits albums since 1973. Seems every few years when they get low on cash they throw together another greatest hits album. Talent wise they were a step above studio musicians. Morrison was The Doors, plain and simple.

i agree they def would have been nowhere without morrison. they def made me want to vomit when they toured with - who the fuck was it? guy from the cult?

krieger had a unique sound! yea! he was a badass! so was densmore - studio musicians? please - there are a million studio musicians who can play better than krieger or densmore or manzarek or anyone for that matter but its creativity and "click" that made them the doors :2 cents:

anyone who likes american prayer - recommended reading - arthur rimbaud - morrison was heavily influenced by rimbaud.

YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!!!!

YOu can never replace the lead signer of any band, Inxs tried it and fucked it, but i have to say, i watched Ian Astbury play with Ray and robbie and i thought he was fantastic, not as good as Jim, but pretty fucking good.

GregE 11-26-2006 07:13 PM

Awake
shake dreams from your hair
my pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day and the sign of your day
The day's divinity
First thing you see.

A vast radiant beach in a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by its quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy.
the music and voices are all around us.
Choose, they croon, the Ancient Ones
The time has come again
choose now,they croon,
beneath the moon
beside an ancient lake.
Enter again the sweet forest,
Enter the hot dream,
Come with us.
Everything is broken up and dances.

The man was a fucking genius!

And yes, he wouldn't be what he was without the other doors just like they're nothing much without him........ or his words.

Jarmusch 11-26-2006 07:18 PM

Yep I bought the cd some 10 years ago, still have it, still love it.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-26-2006 07:21 PM

One of my all time favorite Doors tunes...and yes, it was chemistry:

CRYSTAL SHIP

Before you slip into unconsciousness
I'd like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss

The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We'll meet again, we'll meet again

Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
You'd rather cry, I'd rather fly

The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I'll drop a line

I was just rattling your cage dude. Seriously I love The Doors. 25 years ago I was totally into them and there were plenty of times of smoking weed and listening the The End in the dark at 3AM.

GregE 11-26-2006 07:47 PM

Of course discussion of Jim Morrison is complete without reference to what most would agree was his signature song.

The End

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Love is real, real is love
Love is feeling, feeling love
Love is wanting to be loved

Love is touch, touch is love
Love is reaching, reaching love
Love is asking to be loved

Love is you

Love is knowing

you have it completely backwards, but that's ok. Jim's charisma, insane lyrics and voice made the Doors - they would have never been shit without him. I love the Doors but musically even I have to admit they get extremely cheesy at times - they went off on way too many jazz / polka tangents, lol - they were not stretching musical boundaries (most of the time) by any means
