am I crazy? new car delima

currently have an infinity fx45 - fully loaded.

lease is up in 3-4 months.

so i'm looking - love the fx45 - might get another one. they're about $70K

like the new mercedies ml series - the 350 fully loaded is about the same cost as the fx45 maybe even a few bucks less, the ml500 a little more - and the ml63 rocks for only $100K canadian... absolutly LOVE that car...... but in winnipeg I'd get the SAME impression from the 350 as the ML63 and save like $50K......

but here's the thing.

I absolutly LOVE the toyota FJ land cruiser.

it's a big step down price wize but it's honesly all the vechile i need and pretty much exacltly what i want - it's only $40,k fully loaded with a few extras.

i have a few months to think, test drove an fj and seriously like it. also drove the mercedies and serioiusly liked the 350 and the 500 - they didn't have a 63 in stock...

thoughts? i heard hooper or wiseman had one - any reposts on them?

2HousePlague 11-25-2006 03:35 PM

Get the FJ.

As long as it runs well and gets you from point a to b. All that matters is how comfortable it is to you personally.

wedouglas 11-25-2006 03:37 PM

No experience with either, but I've always liked the G 500. Maybe not the type of auto you're looking for though.

MaDalton 11-25-2006 03:38 PM

buy what you like not what you think others might like

i've always always been a truck kind of guy - no use for cars. i like high end trucks mind you - and suv's - but big 4x4s is what i go for....

just me :2 cents:

I'd much rather buy a practical vehicle that I enjoy than an image conscience vehicle that I really couldn't give two shits about.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-25-2006 03:47 PM

Deacon Donny can probably get you a helluva good deal... :winkwink:

I just traded off an ML350 a couple of months ago for a Porsche Cayenne.
Overall the ML was a good winter vehicle. The only issue I had with mine, and I found it is quite common is that it needed a complete set of brakepads at 24k miles.it's not covered under warranty and will cost about $500.
The temperature control system was touchy.Mine was an 03' Ml and the new ones are the same.I was never able to just set a temp and have it stay there.
Gas mileage was in the upper teens.I thought the quality was excellent. After 3 years there were no rattles or squeaks. When I was looking a few months back it came down in the end to the Porsche or another ML350..the Porsche edged it out in performance and handling and driver seat comfort. You appear to be a tall fellow, and the ML doesn't have anywhere near the legroom that the Porsche has.

but what if you could have both? the ml 350 /500/63 are kinda both for me... but i see them as about the same as the FJ - weird....

billywatson 11-25-2006 03:51 PM

I have an FJ, and I love it. Best vehicle on the road, IMO. Any questions, just ask!!!

So then buy both. Lots of people have 2 vehicles, especially ones with success.

Go for it big daddy.

Gogi 11-25-2006 03:52 PM

New car is best car some would say ... me ... I would feel like a king in some '68. oldsmobile ... :)

Vox 11-25-2006 03:52 PM

I love my FJ, and it loves to cruise in the 130/140 kmh range on the highway.
Be prepared to pre order it as some dealers have a 6 month wait.

Same here, but Sleazy seems overly concerned with the price of the vehicle and what other's impression of him will be.

DateDoc 11-25-2006 03:56 PM

They have a V8 FJ here now. Get one of those. And get a fun car for the summer with the $$ you save.

Fat Panda 11-25-2006 03:58 PM

fuck i would by a pimp ass GMC Denali.....thats all you need

borked 11-25-2006 03:59 PM

If you love the FJ, get the FJ - it's what you'll be driving, so drive what you love (why I will never give up my 1976 mini with its big fuck off Union Jack painted on the roof)

The V6 already has bad gas mileage, I can just imagine the V8. Not that I really care working from home.

This is what I'm planing on getting for a summer fun car.

Kimo 11-25-2006 04:18 PM

who gives a fuck, just post pics when you buy it like everyone else does

Axeman 11-25-2006 04:19 PM

Just get the car you want to drive. Fuck what others think about you.

To buy a car just so others perceive you as successful would just be stupid.

Ok, can someone explain to me why every FJ has a white-fucking roof? No matter what color car, the roof's white.

It's a tribute to the old FJ40, which also had a white roof (which thank god is removeable).

The classic FJ40's are so badass, very popular here, I almost bought one before I bought my CJ7... The new one IMO is lame, but I've never been a big fan of "retro" cars.

Exactly.

I can afford to drive anything I want. However, my commute is all of four miles a day. I'll stick it out with my Mustangs.

squishypimp 11-25-2006 06:25 PM

get a benz :)

Dagwolf 11-25-2006 06:29 PM

I suggest getting Firefox 2.0 because of the built in spell checker. It's free, and much more secure than Internet Explorer. Go to http://www.getfirefox.com to download it.

What's really cool about having that spell checker is that after awhile you'll start spelling better without having to correct all the words it tells you to correct. And people take you a little more seriously when you spell better.

Between your title and your first message, there were 10 incorrect spellings. Firefox would have helped you avoid that.

JFK 11-25-2006 06:42 PM

Sleazy, this is too funny, I was after the FJ a couple of days ago, do a search on my name, quite a number of responses. I decided not to get it because it too much of a 4 wheeler for my liking, even tough I LOVE how it looks. The salesman compared it to the Hummer and said it was better. The gas mileage sucks as well. So I'm still looking. The base price in the US is about 22K in Canada its 38k, kinda SUCKS:2 cents:

This one is much better
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
In BRABUS Racing version with performance-improving fuel cooling, custom camshafts and an open racing exhausts system maximum power output of the supercharged V8 engine increases to 660 hp / 486 kW at 6,500 rpm. The exhaust system is not certified for use on public roads. Thus equipped the SLR storms to 100 km/h from rest in just 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 340 km/h.

The SLR is also about 8x as expensive as the Elise. Not a comparison, at all.

MikeVega 11-25-2006 09:06 PM

I used to want expensive cars but then i just got over it .. I had the Range Rover and a few other nice cars ... then I stepped down to the Acura's ... and then when i was looking for a new car for the wife .. we looked at the Land Rover line again and the FX35 (she doesn't need the power) .. then she wanted a Mini Van .. looked at the Honda Odyssey (nicest one I think) but ended up getting a fully loaded Honda Pilot .. Picked it up today and it's really nice .. the quality is very close to the Acura (same company) and the Third row fits 2 adults easy .. the Navigation is great .. has full voice control .. I'm very happy with it ... I'm done spending big money on cars to drive to the office and for my wife to go food shopping ... If anything I'll buy a nice sports car as a third just for fun ..

The sticker was $35k ..

mikiemd101 11-25-2006 09:18 PM

sorry but the fx 45 is the glove that just fits perfect. Rented a fx 35 for awhile and loved it for what it is.

whatever makes you happy and you can afford.

WiredGuy 11-26-2006 12:22 AM

I've always loved the high end cars that are $100k+ but I never bought one for a simple reason. The depreciation on these cars is insane. The minute you drive off, you lose $40k??! That's insane to me. I'd much rather put down $30-$50k into a car I'll use just as much and put the rest into property or something that keeps it's value. That being said, I say go for the cheaper car :)

I saw one of them today, in Edmonton of all placing, and its fucking -20C and 6" of snow.
Mind you it was on a flat deck being pulled by a nice dually. And had the white travel dealer protective stickers all over it.
But still would have never guessed to see one here at all.

To the OP, I really like the FJ Cruzier, and almost bought it over my Jeep, kinda wish I did now (my Jeep is a fucking pile of shit, dont buy a Jeep).

Also if you bitch about the milage on the FJ but are willing to spend 3x the price on something else then something is wrong. While it doesnt get the best milage, who the fuck cares, its not THAT bad.

Since it seems like you have the money I would probably get the FJ and then if I wanted a sporty car I would buy a used vette or something.

The only people that care how many of a car they see on their way to work are the ones only concered about their image, I buy a car because I like it for whatever reason, not because the jones' dont have it. But thats just me. It just seems silly to not buy something you want because you see too many of them.
