My Google left me.. I am one sad motherfucker!

Down from 20k to just under 2k in daily traffic(thank god I still have MSN and Yahoo)

A source told me that Google has started to censor SERPS in an effort to make the web more "family friendly"...

What do you all think about that?

nico-t 11-25-2006 10:56 AM

i think it sucks donkey balls.... this is a huge change, at first i thought it was just dancing still but it seems like this is it

Tempest 11-25-2006 10:57 AM

Given that I see some terms still having the first couple spots as porn sites and then a mix of spam and just plain weird shit, I'd say this is more of a "blip" than anything else.

martinsc 11-25-2006 10:58 AM

google is fucking with adult

I had the same problem few weeks ago. Google dumped some of my blogs from first page. Now I'm working very hard to get them back where they belong.

Remember my thread from earlier this week, this might explain some things.

Remember my 1400 indexed pages I mentioned, I have 23 indexed pages now in google at this point and I had those 1400 pages indexed for months, I have been checking with the competition and I see the same thing happening to them. A stupid decission from google because webmasters will get those top 10 rankings back one way or the other.

welcome to the land of "free speech"

SomeCreep 11-25-2006 12:51 PM

Google is anti-porn.

Kimo 11-25-2006 12:53 PM

google supports zango...

lol

SmokeyTheBear 11-25-2006 12:57 PM

all you talkingg about google being anti-porn , i dont think your right.. if anything this would spurn MORE seo for adult. when adult seo's are churning they are usually looking for non-adult pages to get listed on easily.. this = more porn..

Google is doing this to turn more money thru google adwords.. as someone else mentioned, if they start showing irrlevant results for broad porn terms 2 things happen #1 people refins their searches = more cpc for adwords.. #2 more tarffic in general for adwords..

If a surfer cant find free porn videos when he searches for free porn videos , he is mor elikely to click an adword.. or better yet refine his seqarcxh " asian porn videos " and now the adwords click is worth twice as much to them.

ro8in 11-25-2006 12:58 PM

I guess we will have to make our sites more family friendly then :P :P

David_MaskTV 11-25-2006 12:59 PM

google doesn't like porn...

Manowar 11-25-2006 01:20 PM

Miguel T 11-25-2006 01:22 PM

Fuck Google :(

Brad Gosse 11-25-2006 01:23 PM

I hate to say it but I got some of that traffic in the shakeout. My google #'s are way up.

thaifan99 11-25-2006 01:29 PM

Couple of things to think about here.

1) if you havent added google sitemaps - do it now. Makes sense to play by their system. also read /post in googles webmaster forums & learn more.

2) DMOZ is fucked - who knows what effect DMOZ listings have on your google ranking - when DMOZ is back to normal you might see things change again. (millions of results not being show at moment in dmoz due to technical problems). So if you were listed in DMOZ and sites linking to you and vice versa were you could suffer a hit.

3) Look at the top listed sites for your keywords and work out why they are top and try replicate!

free4porn 11-25-2006 01:40 PM

google said my site wasnt indexed, i checked 5 minutes later and said it was :/

gfx3 11-25-2006 01:53 PM

Webmasters will work around it, can be done, this will be a bit different than cloaking but it doesn't even look extremely difficult to deal with this issue.

very true, everything that google does is driven by profit...

King of Queens 11-25-2006 02:05 PM

yeah my rankings drop like a rock too

they can't make there engine more family friendly and then get paid per click to serve up porn.

that's just not gonna get the 'family safe' message accross plus if there are no correct results then these surfers are likely refine there search else where and that's a lot of searches to lose behind some dumb shit.

They could be... or they are trying to spread out searches to being finer tuned.

However, I would say 95% of people searching for 'porn' aren't looking for news on porn... and, if they are, they should just have a 'no adult content' filter tag on..

I agree with Smokey. Google has done quite a few things to latley to drive up adwords traffic and the adwords ppc cost. They have fucked me on a lot of my ppc keywords.

reynold 11-26-2006 08:46 AM

Google does not offer unending partnership..

Mark_E4A 11-26-2006 10:40 AM

If i recall, this happened last year around Xmas time as well.

i had a first page spot for sluts for a long time now,

last year around this time, i lost that spot and couldnt find it pages deep.

Once Xmas was over, bingo, i got my spots back.

Do a search for sluts you wll see alot of books ect.. now.

This is just something that i noticed, I could be wrong, but.... looks like that to me.
