Is this just in Canada?

Getting up early, going to work, getting off work, preparing for work the next day then going to bed so you can get up to work.

wtf is wrong with our culture. I see everyone else doing this and it's getting old and tired. Dont get me wrong, I dont do this, but why is everyone else stuck doing this day in and day out. It's complete and utter madeness! I'd rather be shit broke then earn just enough to get by day to day.

Everyone works for the wrong reasons! You should be working for your freedome, financial independence, not for stuff, a house, car, junk, doodads, status. Man 80-90% of all work is for stuff that you dont need. You end up working for stuff not for you. I think our priorities are way off base and work has gotten too far away from fun.

Hunter gatherers would work maybe 4 hours/day and what work they did do was more like play. Now we do completely miningless jobs, monotenous jobs with no value and little addition to anything important. And then there is the paper-pushing jobs. Dont get me started....cut them out and stay home. And then the government suck holes who paper push...have them stay home with the kids and pay them, its retarded. They aren't doing anything productive in the goverment anyway what would be the difference. Women, now you guys messed up big time, why did you even want to work? You should have stayed home all along, but you got screwed into work a day and slashed the value of everyone because workers weren't in short supply.

Man, we've never been in a time of more wealth, yet everyone works harder, less free time and life satisfaction is down. If you're working for someone else, you are serving their dream....get your own.

Anybody else agree or is this just me?

just because you might work for the wrong reasons, doesn't mean everyone is

MaddCaz 11-23-2006 12:39 PM

just in Canada

Sly 11-23-2006 12:52 PM

Not just Canada. Most people are "trapped" in their jobs.

I have a lot of friends who know I make more than them and don't understand why I still work so much. In their minds I should work less because I already have the money for living expenses. To me, thats totally backwards. I don't work to live and never want to. I work because I enjoy it and want to keep moving forward with my life.

Hunter gatherers tended to die by the time they were 20, froze or starved to death in the winter...and their life SUCKED and was extremely difficult. Often times hunting took them very far from where they lived and they certainly didn't play all day, they lived from day to day trying to gather enough food to feed themselves, they had to protect themselves from animals, making their own weapons etc.

A happy medium would be nice, but if you think this world would be better if we all donned loin clothes and went back to the hunting days...you are a tad bit nuts lol

Good post and point. Some people just dont get it. Question is, have they ever asked you to show them how you do it or do they just dredge along? I always found that ironic about ppl. They will complain about work, but never look for a solution around it or else make work more fun.

this is really good post... i think that people need to work themself and really got big pleasure from this.

Dvae 11-23-2006 01:23 PM

If you have to ask then yes, its just Canada.

BlackCrayon 11-23-2006 01:30 PM

its called the rat race. not everyone can work a few hours a day and get by. you should know living near toronto that you need to make good money just to live in a decent area. i'd imagine if people didn't have kids or the need to have 'status' they wouldn't do this as much but its just how the world is. in some places its much worse even. anyways, most people can't afford to 'serve their own dream' and if everyone did the economy would be in trouble.

Hunter gatherers (primitive areas) still exist today only work about 4 hours/day. I'm not neccessarly talking about in the past. I had a professor tell me about Inuit people and he was surprised that the guy spent most of his day sleeping and not doing anything at all. I guess that's not the greatest life, but heck if it wasn't so cold I bet he would be getting a nice tan outside. Fact was, he didnt have to be working and struggling all day, he got his food then lounged around.

Think about how most people divide up their resources (money) and what they use their resources for. What is it that you spend your time on and what do you acquire with it. I never really thought of having to work all the time, I thought about how much time I would have to spend in order to purchase a certain item.

It also blows my mind that most dont understand transfer of wealth and intergenerational wealth. If done correctly, your children wont ever have to work so long as what you work for, in your lifetime is transferable. Cars + tvs + jobs and pensions = not transferable, property + investments = transferable. Why should our kids have to work? Earn the money once and use the money that comes from your investments to fun liabilities. Never touch the principle = transferable wealth.

Do you have any credit card debt Chris?

I think that reasons like that are why a lot of people get stuck in the 9-5 turnaround.

Nope, always use cash...heck no, I use the credit card and pay it off in full at the end of the month. Why not borrow some money for free. Never have to pay for withdrawls or Interact fees and everyone takes it (almost).
