She's 7 and I agree kinda. I may actually end up with the Xbox and she may get a Wii. Still doing the research on kid game availability.

Psycho_x 11-23-2006 06:34 AM

Make her wait.

Motherly advice: Kids love Christmas, half of the joy of it is the anticipation, the "I can't wait for Santa Claus", counting down the days, doing Christmas activities like baking or going for drives looking at Christmas lights, ice skating etc.....all in preparation for that one big moment...Christmas Day! When you run down the stairs and your breath is taken away by the Christmas tree all lit up and surrounded by what looks in a childs eyes to be a million gifts!

Don't take that away from her because you can't stand the suspense. Also, she is 7, don't get her too into games and xbox's yet....let her be 7 and enjoy the thrill of imagination...like Barbie's. Don't let her waste her imaginative years with activities that are all done for you....find things that require creativity, imagination...and for the child to actually do something. It is the old "the kid would rather play with the box than the toy" idea. For a 7 year old girl....make your own jewelery sets, art sets, dress up clothes (shoes, feather boas, tiara's, princess dresses, play kitchens, grocery store registers with grocery items...stuff like that. 7 year olds aren't impressed with xbox's...that is YOU trying to impress others with what you got her. Give the xbox to yourself and if you find a suitable game for a young child, then let her play occasionally.

Fuck anticipation.. I want presents now!

you just expressed what i wanted to say in the best way possible:thumbsup

my good parent alert just went off.

the barbie house is a fucking great gift for christmas jim

you can let her play with your xbox369 from time to time.
but any console for her alone will reduced her joy for the barbie house and the creativity will not be challenged

I can handle my parenting duties just fine guys. I cut her cord and have been raising her just fine every since. Appreciate the advice, I really do. However that's not what I asked. LOL

E$_manager 11-23-2006 08:38 AM

Try to hide it first. :)
Bet she will be able to find it before Christmas, so it doesn't matter if you deside to wait till xmas or not :)

AssPirate 11-23-2006 09:11 AM

If you can't wait for Christmas and you're feeling a bit generous, how about making smaller gifts that clue her on what she might get on Christmas Day? Like maybe based on that Christmas carol, "10 days of Xmas".

You asked for advice on whether you should give it to her or not, and I think you got your answer :)

Don't take offense to people offering other suggestions, a good parent is always looking for ways to improve on being a parent because frankly we could all do with some help and advice since none of us are perfect.

Suggestions are not criticisms of your parenting skills, it is in the nature of parents to want to help other parents...we love our children, we love all kids, we like to share what we have learned through the years through our own mistakes. Don't be insecure about it. Some of the best parenting, gift giving, activity advice I got was from other parents.

Your daughter is 7, you love her to pieces, you want to give her everything in the world, you want her to have the good life...there is nothing wrong in that. One parent telling another...skip the xbox, go for this instead is not meant to hurt your feelings....it is just advice from parents who have been through it a time or two (4 times for me). Take the advice, leave the advice, but don't get offended by it...that is just plain silly

carol.prime 11-23-2006 09:16 AM

hmmm looks like a marshamallow test, let her wait :)
