Best Laptop of 2006

Post here, what you think the best laptop made this year is.. For all around the boards --> handling new programming software, art software, music software.. I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I can't decide.. HP has a really strong box for 2000.. same box costs 2400 and gateway.. and dell is a ridic -> 3500 dollars.. I love the hp look.. I have still yet to build one under IBM.. Any suggestions?

Andiz 11-22-2006 02:05 PM

I'd guess a Sony Vaio ...they are really nice!

Oracle Porn 11-22-2006 02:10 PM

get custom made ones from ebay.... i bought 1 almost 3 years ago for $2k... other then a hard drive crash never had any problems with it what so ever! well worth the money.....

jact 11-22-2006 02:12 PM

I have an HP that I bought 70 days ago, and I'm buying a Dell next week.. What's that tell you about HP?

Fucking keyboard SUCKS! Already lost my F key, half the keys don't work half the time, it's sluggish as shit, takes over 8 minutes to boot up now...

Was awesome the first 30 days.

Himuro 11-22-2006 02:15 PM

MacBook Pro. it's totally sick

CyberHustler 11-22-2006 02:16 PM

I staying with Sony Vaio, they look great and work great

Daymare 11-22-2006 02:18 PM

macbook pro 15 or 17" w/ 2.33ghz core 2 duo. you can dual boot it to run xp(if you have to) and osx and it runs like a dream

marko13 11-22-2006 02:19 PM

i would suggest you to buy Sony VAIO with dual core 100gb hard disk 1 gb Ram 256mb graphis and dvd+/- Rw... i will by one after one week...

David_MaskTV 11-22-2006 02:26 PM

me too SONY VAIO

he-fox 11-22-2006 02:27 PM

I just bought this one:

TOSHIBA P105-SP6022 CORE DUO 2.0 T2500 1GB 160GB

2k

Trax 11-22-2006 02:27 PM

vaio???
you gotto be fucking kidding me lol

Kimmykim 11-22-2006 02:27 PM

MacBooks rock.

Other than that, I'd say either Sony Vaio or Fujitsu Lifebook

MorningWood Stefen 11-22-2006 02:30 PM

MacBook Pro 4 sure!

bobby666 11-22-2006 02:37 PM

all those that didn't burn down due to sony batteries

buddyjuf 11-22-2006 02:43 PM

I have a vaio SZ-260P/C and it is overpriced, and underperforming

my battery life NEVER goes above 4 hours (vs the advertised 7 hours), and my internet connectivity is much worse than my previous laptops. And the body seems a little flimsy, even with carbon fiber.

besides that, yes it is a kickass laptop, but there are better out there

Daruma 11-22-2006 02:49 PM

MacBook Pro
15"

Traphic 11-22-2006 03:16 PM

Yah.. I just heard about the macbooks actually.. I definitely wouldn't mind dual booting.. Macs are really good for designing graphics and doing music i hear too right? I have a sony vaio right now and personally i bought it for 1500 and it runs like a piece of shit.. THat was about 8 months ago.. Thing lags out on me all the time.. Runs .net interface horribly.. I think i'm going to go with a MacBook.. The ibms are really nice business machines but the graphics end is horrible.. and i have to admit, i don't mind shooting down some terrorists every couple days when I get bored..

Viper2K1 11-22-2006 03:18 PM

A couple weeks ago I got a VAIO with core2 duo 1.66ghz, 120gb, 1gig ram, DVDr and all that crap
was pretty cheap, so far so good ... certainly the screen kicks ass

The days that people went "wow, you got a vaio!" are long over ... eventhough they still look good, they're in everybody's price-range now (well not the high-end ones, but anyway)

whatever you do, don't get a girly white laptop ... it has "gay" all over it :p

I have 3 of them now.. and to be honest the best notebook I've ever had

a few tips
1. don't install any of the 3rd party fan controllers - you'll just have to redo your computer from the beginning..

2. once you migrate to mac, software wise - you'll probably use windows less and less - if at all

3. graphics wise - you'll never regret getting into a mac

i'm mainly a programmer.. i design on the side when i feel like i can pull something off without paying a professional.. i do like doing music production as one of my stronger hobbies, so i'd definitely want to pursue that with it.. i just want a strong machine that won't lag out on me when i'm treating it like a desktop.. i understand notebooks will never be as powerful as a high end desktop, but this vaio is hell.. for running windows, .net, sound production.. does the notebook hold it's own? i like the mac interface though.. i'd keep all the communication/art on the mac side and do business on the windows side

for music there is nothing better - I dont do any - but just go into any major production studio or watch any of the pros on the road - they all use mac notebooks

regarding lagging - I also have a 24" IMac - with 3gigs of memory - and my main 15" MacBook Pro - with 2 gigs of memory keeps up very very well.. never a problem - I only keep about 50 windows open at a time :thumbsup

once you get into mac you'll never regret it

smooth.

If you need a desktop replacement laptop, go for Toshiba P105/110. Best quality/price.

For notebooks, I don't know.

Don RELISH 11-23-2006 09:49 AM

Sony VAIOs look good but run like shit. My last one cost me £2000 (US$3800) and lasted a whole 18 months before giving up completely due manufacturing faults and dodgy parts.

MACs are obviously the designers' choice, gorgeous and great performance though you may want to stick with PCs for convenience.

If so I'd recommend AlienWare. These babies are designed by gamers for gamers, so you can bet they're the business in terms of performance. Rock solid. They're not bad to look at either, maybe a little bulkier depending on the model, but that's a small trade off for what you get. Personally, this is my next laptop. :thumbsup

Why do you say that?

Anthony 11-23-2006 10:07 AM

I've been using the same laptop for the past 1.5 years. IBM Thinkpad T41, 80GB HD, 2GB RAM.

Going to get a dual core in the near future.

I just picked up a new Alienware myself. It is an amazing system. I went balls to the wall with the upgrades and they were worth every penny. Out performs every desktop I have played on to date.

Theo 11-23-2006 10:53 AM

do some searches at gfy on alienware from webmasters they use them, they have many problems

Theo 11-23-2006 10:54 AM

good luck eric :)

Klen 11-23-2006 11:08 AM

Any model of Dell.

MaddCaz 11-23-2006 11:10 AM

its the one im workin on!

MacBook Pro with no doubt. Mac OSX is BSD Unix and Xp well, it's XP and you can run them both. Using Parallels you can actually run XP or Vista in a virtual machine under OSX. If the application software you use runs under oSX you will rarely use Windows Again.
