Kissinger Says Victory in Iraq Is Not Possible
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006J.shtml
Former secretary of state Henry A. Kissinger, who regularly advises President Bush on Iraq, said today that a full military victory is no longer possible there. With this, he joined a growing number of leading conservatives openly challenging the administration's conduct of the war and positive forecasts for it.

Sheldon Rampton | Time for Another Body Count in Iraq
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006K.shtml
"Under the strange Bizarro rules that right-wing pundits use to interpret politics in the United States, election season is the time when no one is supposed to discuss any of the things that might actually have a serious impact on their voting decision," writes Sheldon Rampton. "Let's start by talking about the dead in Iraq."

Key Democrat Wants to Reinstate Draft
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006L.shtml
Americans would have to sign up for a new military draft after turning 18 under a bill the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee says he will introduce next year.

Pentagon Review Sees Three Options in Iraq
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006M.shtml
The Pentagon's closely guarded review of how to improve the situation in Iraq has outlined three basic options: Send in more troops, shrink the force but stay longer, or pull out, according to senior defense officials.

Intrigue Swirls in Ex-KGB Man's Illness
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006N.shtml
The British police said Sunday that they were investigating the suspected poisoning of Alexander V. Litvinenko, a Russian former KGB operative living in exile in Britain who had been inquiring into the killing of a journalist in Moscow last month.

Missing Presumed Tortured
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006O.shtml
More than 7,000 prisoners have been captured in America's war on terror. Just 700 ended up in Guantanamo Bay. Between extraordinary rendition to foreign jails and disappearance into the CIA's "black sites," what happened to the rest?

Robert Lipsyte | Driving Values
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112006P.shtml
Robert Lipsyte writes: "Four years ago, mad political scientists created Nascar Dad to combat Soccer Mom. The result was as epic as Beowulf versus Grendel's Mother. We know how both those battles came out. And now we also know that Nascar Dad, like the great Scandinavian mercenary, began to wonder if he was protecting the right mead hall."

VIDEO | Project Censored: Media Accountability Conference Truthout Report
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/111506U.shtml
For the past 27 years, Project Censored, a program based at Sonoma State University, in Rohnert Park, California, has compiled a list of the top 25 underreported stories from around the country. This year's list, arranged and reviewed by approximately 200 students and faculty, again contains stories that, for whatever reason, were deemed unfit for American eyes by the mainstream media. We disagree.

"a full military victory is no longer possible there"

Yes. You can't win a terrorist war with the military alone. You have to install a government in these hotbeds of terrorist activity, that is democratic. In other words the hearts and minds of the majority will have to decide victory. If the Iraqi's never step up and want a real democracy, no amount of military action will change that. Kissinger is right, but this is not new news. Sorry.

He would be correct.

Victory was won three years ago. I don't really understand what the american troops are trying to achieve now in Irak, other than world's hatery on America.

Lazonby 11-22-2006 09:50 AM

Of course it's possible to win. If America would learn to fight without both of it's hands tied behind it's back and standing on one leg then it would kick ass every time.

Thanks to political correctness and the 'liberal elite' (:1orglaugh), the US miliitary has been hamstrung for about 40 years.

We won the conventional war three years ago.

Ever since then we've been trying to turn Iraq into a Jeffersonian democracy which is like trying to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

It can't be done and that's what Kissinger is talking about.

If Bush had half a clue, after taking Baghdad he'd have turned the country over to one of Saddam's generals and then told the man to behave himself otherwise we'd come back and chase him into a hole too.

Quick and dirty, that's how it should have been handled from beginning to end :2 cents:
