A Prairie Home Companion? That should be interesting as I grew up listening to Garrison Keillor in the back seat of the car on on Sunday road trips.

"The Player," is one great movie.

That man lived a very fulfilling life. Nothing to be upset.

Webby 11-21-2006 12:36 PM

Sheesh... That was one long career in movies, TV and scriptwriting - and one hell of a lot of work under his belt.

Very first start was co-scripting The Bodyguard which was produced in the late 40's - and still working on the Garrison Keillor project at 80 something.

Damn. That fucking blows.

"I don't storyboard anything. I go on a set in the morning and, unless a scene requires a lot of props, I won't even tell the crew what I'm going to shoot first. I know what the set-up is and which actors are required. But I have to see what occurs and like to shoot in sequence if possible. It makes for a lot of editing but I like to go on a journey with the actors. I also love working on ensemble movies like Nashville, Short Cuts and Gosford Park. Having multiple narratives makes my job a lot easier: if something doesn't work, it means I can cut away to something else.
Altman had a quirky but brilliant method for creating uniquely interesting movies.

M*A*S*H is of course a classic, and he had so many other great ones...A Wedding, Nashville, and 3 Women were among my favorites.

He will long be studied by students of filmmaking.

RIP Robert Altman...

I wonder if he ever thought he missed out on anything on his life, because from what he's done, he did almost everything. Did he even appear in his own movies occasionally?

I loved his "The Player" and "Short Cuts".
