Zango Breakthrough (Important) Zango Stopped!

I think I may have the solution to everyones zango problem I have tested this and it seems to work for me. I need more people to test this to get a good view on its effectiveness. Zango will not make a popup on a site that already has a popup. So I found this script to add a popup to your site and stop the popup before it loads so your users don't even get a message saying popup blocked through their browser, your site will look exactly the same as it did before. so add this code to the pages that you want to protect, I have tested it for an hour on sites of mine that usaully get a zango popup and no popups have came.
Code:

<script>
NS_ActualWrite=document.write;
// Script Error Blocker -->
function handleError() {return true;}
window.onerror = handleError;
// Popup Blocker -->
NS_ActualOpen=window.open;
orig_setTimeout = window.setTimeout;
function NS_NullWindow(){this.window;}
function NS_NewOpen(url,nam,atr){
obj=new NS_NullWindow();
obj.focus = NS_NullWindow;
obj.opener = this.window;
return(obj);
}
function NS_NullWindow2(){this.window;}
function NS_NewOpen2(url,nam,atr){return(new NS_NullWindow2());}
function op_stop() { NS_ActualOpen2=window.open; window.open=NS_NewOpen2; }
function op_start() { window.open=NS_ActualOpen2; }
function noopen_ST(one,two) { orig_setTimeout("op_stop();"+one+";;op_start();",two); }
function noopen_load() { op_stop(); if(orig_onload) orig_onload(); op_start(); }
function noopen_unload() { op_stop(); if(orig_onunload) orig_onunload(); op_start(); }
window.setTimeout = noopen_ST;
window.open=NS_NewOpen;
</script>

<!---End Popup Blocker script --->

<!--- Here's popup wins --->

<script>
window.open('http://www.google.com/')
</script>
<!---End popup wins --->

will check this out later. thanks :thumbsup

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 12:27 PM

I can't be 100% on this so if people could help test it this would be great but the results are looking good from my sites

munki 11-20-2006 12:29 PM

Looks pretty decent, I'll give it a spin later.

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 12:46 PM

Come on people need somemore testers

Lazonby 11-20-2006 12:48 PM

OzMan 11-20-2006 01:28 PM

Thinking out of the box :thumbsup :thumbsup

pawsregd 11-20-2006 01:41 PM

Bump for Smokey to take a look at this

SmokeyTheBear 11-20-2006 01:47 PM

Thats a great idea , ill try it out.. i never even thought about that , they must do that so they dont get a circle jerk happen

OzMan 11-20-2006 01:53 PM

So far on the one site I tested it on it looks

pretty fucking good to me :GFYBand

loaded about 30 times and no Zango popup shoulda got one by now. Loading the join page link in a frame will solve a popup on the join page too I guess although there are a few sponsors who don't like that.

fingers crossed on this one :)

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 01:55 PM

also guys check out my anti-zango site www.zangoed.com if you got some good info on zango post it on gfy and I'll try my hardest to get it up to this site (its a spare time non profit site)

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 02:36 PM

Is it working for you smokey?

starpimps 11-20-2006 02:40 PM

bumpity.

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 05:59 PM

bump....

OzMan 11-20-2006 06:37 PM

This board is pathetic. A thread like this which seems to offer an immediate very simple solution to Zango popups has to get continually bumped to avoid dropping out of sight.

Baddog, should at least get in here with one of his many "This doesn't concern me at all but I heard that if you wear purple socks you won't get popups?" type enlightening posts to keep this thread going until more people that actually care see it.

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 06:51 PM

I did ewxpect this thread to be slightly busyer but I think a lot of people prefer bitching about zango than actually helping with the solution

RawAlex 11-20-2006 06:52 PM

Ozman, at least proof that it is worth something... people bump because they know it is worth it!

RawAlex 11-20-2006 06:53 PM

I do have to say this too: I never thought that a popup would be a solution the the issue of popups.

Evil1 11-20-2006 06:57 PM

well if zango is looking at a pages source searching if theres already a popup why not just a timed popup, set the timer at something retarded like 3 days.. a lot less lines of code to run around adding.

Yeah true enough I guess.. though I figured that more people would have tested it by now. It works for me but I only put it on one site and checked like 50 times or so throughout the day today.

Maybe there are only a handful of people that have actually installed Zango on here and actually own sites out of the many posters. Well yeah that would be consistent with the 1% penetration figures lol :error

jacklaidlaw 11-20-2006 06:59 PM

yes no one see's the popup with this script it does not actually popup up the script is a popup blocker that sends out a popup but gets blocked users on the site would never see the popup and their software popup blocker does not detect it either as it never pops up. (I know this sounds complicated but it seems to work)

maybe he really works for zango and all of the drama surrounding zango is really to promote it in hopes that other big programs will start using it.

Even though the ad doesn't pop up, it doesn't mean the damage hasn't been done. Have you checked your cookies with this? BEFORE you go to your site, clear all your cookies. Then right after you went to your site where zango used to pop, check your cookies again.

If everything looks fine, you have a solution. For now. Until zango reads this and finds a way around it. If your cookie still gets overwritten, then it's back to the drawing board.

Hi missie It does not stop the zango popup all it does is tell zango there is already a popup on that page so zango does not send the user a popup otherwise it would make zango look bad )zango only seems to popup on pages that have no popups)

Missie 11-20-2006 08:22 PM

Still, check your cookies. Just because the ad doesn't pop, it doesn't mean it does no damage to your income. The only way to know for sure is to check cookies.

The fact that the ad doesn't pop up means NOTHING with zango. I don't know how the backend works for zango advetisers or how "ethical" zango is in its own sick ways, but even if the ad doesn't get shown because of another popup doesn't mean the advertiser doesn't get charged for the "click" or impression, or that the cookie didn't get overwritten anyway.

I don't mean to be negative about your solution, hell the more solutions people can come up with the better as far as I'm concerned. The more you give these scums to work around... I just don't want anyone to think the problem is solved when the truth could be that the problem just became invisible due to no popup ads.

Well we will never know without more people testing it and posting their results *cough* hint *cough* :winkwink:

Of course if this is effective Zango will be hard at work on a fix. However if this lasts a week or three months it will be a positive thing and should encourage others to develop even better solutions along these lines that are harder to get around and don't involve blocking surfers or making them jump thru' hoops. :thumbsup

thats good to see if it works, but i doubt they still overwrite your cookie, as the only way for it overwrite your cookies is by popping the site up, zango doesn't actually overwrite cookies, but the site its popping over yours is whats doing it, so if you don't get the pop, your cookie doesn't get overwritten either
