    US Democrats want military draft

U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, the incoming chairman of the House of Representatives' tax-writing committee, said he would introduce legislation to reinstate the draft as soon as the new, Democratic-controlled Congress convenes in January.
An influential Democratic lawmaker on Sunday called for reinstatement of the draft as a way to boost U.S. troop levels and draw a broader section of the population into the military or public service.

well it's kind of a silly way to do it, but the rationale is that lawmakers would have to think about their own children possibly serving before they vote to spend money on war in the future.

its just another shot at the class warfare dems try to perpetuate. If they can't create class envy and unrest, they can't hold power

Rangle had an ammendment for a draft two years ago and he voted "AGAINST" his own ammendment !

Yeah, that will convince him. Give him a bigger army, then say, "you can't use it though."

When your daughter is called to serve in iraq or someones nephew then the rah rah stops really fast. For war we have been asked to give up nothing, the attitude is its a volunteer army they want to be there but a draft changes that.

And you don't think that is sending a mixed message, increase the available military while at the same time insist on withdraw?

Sorry, but people these days are idiots if they think that is going to happen.

As I recall, during Nam, we slowed the draft down to force a withdraw.

If I was president, and you gave me a bigger army, I would think you were telling me to kick their ass, then get out.

I actually read the entire article....

                                    1) This is not the first time this Democrate has tried to the get Draft back - he has tried several times and failed.

                                    2) This is very much a ploy to get the public opinion even more against the war and to put even more pressure on Bush to bring the troops home/redeploy/etc.
