Starbucks Hit with Hot Chocolate Lawsuit

The Starbucks store at 116th Street and I-69 in Fishers, Indiana (near Indianapolis) has been sued by a couple who claim that a cup of hot chocolate burned their daughter, according to the Indianapolis Star. The exact age of the child was not stated in the complaint, but it does state that the child was in a car seat.

(BTW: Thats my new blog, so looks like I finally get to join the cool kids club. If anyone wants to trade links on similarly-minded blogs or sites, let me know.)

I don't know any parent that would not check the temperature of a typically hot item before giving it to a small child. I don't know how many times I've heard "be careful, its hot" when I was young.

They should be charged with child negligence or shut the fuck up.

I dont know any good parent that would give their child something steaming hot while they sit in a carseat..probably in the backseat by herself....idiots looking for money and willing to use their child as a tool to get it.

ditto...plus kid's hot drinks are steamed at 140 degrees at SB and cost a lot less. Now if the parents ordered and extra-hot hot chocolate and handed it to their kid, if the drink spilled; minor burns could occur. Still it is not the fault of the company, but the parents:upsidedow

Of course, but I just wonder if we are getting the full story. I cant help but be reminded of what a terrible job the media did of reporting the facts of the MCD case.

The MCD was the first case :) Now look at all the hot cups and contianers for hot foods...there is a warning printed. I guess, in this case the parents will say I am stupid and have no parent skills and can't read but I still can afford SB :1orglaugh and they will probably win...sad

Some people will do anything for money..

I've ordered hot chocolate and coffee from SB before, and they usually say "be careful, it's hot" in my experience.

Peaches 11-19-2006 08:41 AM

There's a reason why mothers have for years been testing formula temperature on the inside of their wrists before giving it to their babies. What part of "hot" didn't they understand???

Fuck off. :321GFY

Please tell me, all knowing one, what I should have done:

Should I only post things that I actually go out and report on my own, interviewing witnesses, reviewing trial records, etc, etc? I would, but I have neither the time nor the budget. This is not CNN, I don't have 600 bureaus worldwide at my disposal.

I grabbed bits and pieces of the story and then made my commentary, just like goddamn near every other blogger does. Don't you ever accuse me of plagiarism again unless you have some fucking proof, you fucking fuck.

And yes, I linked to the post on my blog instead of the Indianapolis Star with the intent of putting my URL out in one more place to give the Google bot something to munch on. Its called marketing, maybe you have heard of it.

I would have posted that story regardless of if I had my blog or not, because I found it interesting. So you can go finish fucking yourself now.

Thanks. Its a stock template very lightly customized. Its quite lightweight and was pretty easy to make it do what I wanted it to. This is my first time messing with Wordpress, I used to use Blogger but I have gotten tired of their constant outages (inability to publish via FTP combined with nonsensical error messages) and total lack of comprehensive functionality. My first impressions of Wordpress is quite good.
