Does size matter? You better believe it does.

Especially if you are a dog.

I took Buddy

to his first visit to the Redondo Beach dog park today.

Now Buddy comes from a big family, and he was definitely the alpha male out of his litter, so naturally I thought that he would not have issues with other dogs. Unfortunately, when I would take him on walks around the neighborhood this did not seem to be the case. In fact, when we came across other dogs he seemed to be afraid. I figured the dog park would be a good place to erase that fear.

They have two sections. A little dog park, and a big dog park. Since the big dogs were huge, I figured I would let him start off with the little dog side.

Once he got used to the fact that there were a dozen other dogs sharing the area with him, he went alpha all over the place. Big dog in a small pond kind of thing. After a few minutes I decided that since he would soon be too big for that side it was time for him to meet who would hopefully become his running mates. It was a little different over there.

I think the big dogs were looking at him like lifers view the new guy in prison. Buddy sensed it too as his tail was tightly clamped over his asshole.

He did alright, but his favorite spots seemed to be under the bench, where he could protect his virginity, and on the lap of the big titted brunette. :1orglaugh

I think he got a good enough break in to meet Martina's rottie tomorrow. I hope she is gentle. :)

Give him a good 2-3 weeks of socialization with other dogs at the parks... and he'll fit right in...

Ginger used to do a "fence run" trying to stay away and being shy around other dogs first few visits. That graduated into her clamining a bench and getting down right foracious with any dog approaching.

After about 2-3 weeks, she settled right in, and is friendly with every pup coming through the gate. Has helped quite a bit with her offleash training to..

I see she likes to play dead too. That is Buddy's best trick.

sweet Buddy!

If he's an alpha, make sure you go often. Otherwise, he'll probably want to start fights everytime he sees another dog.

I will try to make it a daily thing . . . need to get him used to the car too. . . which reminds me, I need to start a new thread though.

Like weeds. He is on the last hole of his spiked Harley-Davidson dog collar before it is history.
