Old news. Nextel has had this service for well over a year. We've used to track a relative with alzheimer's for a year now.

Problem is if you loose cell service, then you get the last known tower location. So if she goes into say a Walmart store (metal box) we can't see her location. So it's not 100%, but better than nothing.

So that's where my husband is right now!

This technology acutally does exist. A friend of mine drove truck for Fema after hurricane Wilma. They made 500 trucks sit in a parking lot down in Miami, loaded with water and tarps for over a week. One day he decided to drive home to take a shower and get some supplies. On his way home his cellphone rang and the governement guy asked him where he was. He said "Down at the parking lot where all the trucks are."
The government dude said "No, you are on I 95 at Exit so and so."
When my friend asked the guy how in hell he knew he explained that they can track anyone trough their cellphones. As long as they have your cell number they know where you are.

If I start getting telemarking calls on that number now imma have to kill me someone. :1orglaugh
