You obviously have ZERO experience in automotive maintenance with your old Scout/Toyota recommendation.

I own one, picked it up in July and it still puts a smile on my face driving it.

Very solid with definite off road capability but they are huge gas guzzlers. A full size Chevy Tahoe gets better gas mileage. My 2 friends that own them get about 16 mpg on avg.

JFK, I imagine if you bring a nice deposit, they'd be happy to let you take the car out for a few hours or overnight, so you can see what the mileage is like? PS: I also want one. :)

I know surprised me too. Even on the Toyota website it says:

4WD manual: 16/19
4WD automatic: 17/21

NinjaSteve 11-17-2006 07:57 AM

Psycho_x 11-17-2006 08:38 AM

Dont own one.I was just about to purchase one about two months ago and decided to hold off a little while. And now Iam glad I did because as soon as I find the option and color combination I want.I will be sporting the new Dodge Nitro.

jopie 11-17-2006 08:41 AM

Looks great but if the mileage is that bad I would reconsider!

Nubiles 11-17-2006 08:52 AM

cool retro design

DateDoc 11-17-2006 08:55 AM

They also have an FJ TRD coming out soon if you do not mind waiting a little while. There are pics of it on www.toyota.com already.

:)

DutchTeenCash 11-17-2006 09:43 AM

saw one in the US last time, they look cool, but theyre kinda pricey as well

billywatson 11-17-2006 09:47 AM

I picked up a VooDoo Bule one, too...the same color that's pictured here. Big pros are looks, and cons are gas guzzle and you really can't put anything big in it if you wanna, say, move a couch or buy something big and take it home. It's deceptively small in the back, even with the rear seats down. The seats are easy to take down, too...which is a pro. I used to drive a Honda Element, and the seats were a pain in the ass to put up, but man - you could fit an elephant in the back of one of those things!

I'm glad I bought my FJ though...it's a head turner!!

I went and looked at it this morning, you are right, there is No cargo capacity in the back, didnt get to drive it because the dealer just got it in:disgust

djroof 11-17-2006 10:11 AM

nope......

Peaches 11-17-2006 10:14 AM

My neighbor has one and he loves it. Up here we really do need 4WD and he said it's worked flawlessly.

Drake 11-17-2006 10:16 AM

It looks good, or even their 4runner. I checked out different consumer auto guides about reliablity, safety, and features, and Toyota is always on top.

I wouldn't consider under US$30k pricey.

well the prices up here a considerably different, unfortunately. Base Model $37,483, B model $41,621 and the C is $44,631 this is in Canadian funds. After looking at the US prices, it sort of takes the fun out of it:disgust Canadian $ is at 1.14 which makes the base model 32,879 Us:disgust

Yeah the mileage does suck, I've done three trips to Niagara Falls in the past 3 months. One was with a Cavalier Z22 which only took one fill up and the other 2 with the FJ I had to fill up twice before reaching destination.

My C model was 38k$, with tax and prep it came out to 43k$
I've seen some dealers around here mark up the price by an additional 5 grand.

IMO, this isn't something that would be your "regular" car, right? I have a Wrangler that's my fun car - I can't get a sports car up and down these hills, so a Wrangler with manual transmission and a top that goes down is the closest thing for me :)

But my Cherokee gets HORRIBLE mileage. I don't think I've ever gotten over 16, even on the hwy. Usually around 13 in town. I have no idea what the Wrangler gets because I have to figure that out manually and I'm too lazy ;)

DjSap 11-17-2006 10:50 AM

they are kind of ugly and attractive at the same time...ive noticed that the color combos really make a difference whether they look good or not...

You are right Peaches, this would be not my regular vehicle. Something for winter, as my winter beater just sort of gave up the ghost:winkwink:

4Man 11-17-2006 11:03 AM

I don't but i want one.
