Quick question.. broadband vs DSL

I'm getting fucking aggravated at this shit..

Last month I moved to a resort area, on a fucking Island of all places..

Ok, great, but I can't get wired broadband & I've been jacking wifi signals that fucking blow...

So, I'm on the phone with Verizon to find out about DSL, which I can get hooked up, but it's only 3mbps.. oooh, that sounds so fucking damn slow..

Just how slow is it.. anyone here use verizon dsl..

Fuck,,when I was using comcast broadband before I moved, it was at 100mbps.. I really hate to think how slow 3mbps is..

stef_girls18 11-15-2006 06:01 AM

I'd be happy to have 3mps ....

beta-tester 11-15-2006 06:04 AM

LOL, 3Mbps :) Man....
It's not SLOW, believe me....but 100...I can say WOW :)
I have 768Kbps DSL and am pretty much happy with the speed :)

well, me too considering the intermittent, hardly ever able to connect to wifi is only 1mbps.. & my damn card can handle 108mbps.. I have no choice.. No damn broadband

dunefield 11-15-2006 06:09 AM

3mbps is about 280kb/s or there abouts I think... thats not so bad at all...

spacedog 11-15-2006 06:12 AM

ok, so now the tech on the phone is asking me if I have 10Base-T Ethernet Network Interface Card . How do I know if I have one? :1orglaugh

beta-tester 11-15-2006 06:19 AM

well every single ethernet card is probably ok...you need nothing special...I bet your card is 1Gbps if you could have been able to run 100Mbps DSL through it...
So The card is not the problem.

btw. Does anyone know where I can check my speed on the internet...you know these sites with testing programs (usually flash) for the speed of the connection

these speedtests are very unreliable

Surfing - you'll see no difeerence (or a very slight one). Only when you have download/upload large files then you gonna feel the pain in the ass ;)

As for the 10-Base Network card just say "yes"

jollyperv 11-15-2006 06:25 AM

100 mbps from comcast ???

Did you open the modem up and jimmy it or something? :winkwink:

I've got a 3mbps from bellsouth and it's fucking blazing fast and only $27 a month.

the dsl speed is going to vary depending on your location to the CO. the further away you are ,the slower it gets. i think it's about 3 miles. they wont guarantee speeds for you. when i first got dsl about 6 years ago it was just barely faster than dial-up, but i had no other choice at the time. i think i was at the 3 mile (or whatever distance) limit.

check http://toast.net for a speed test.

Ace_luffy 11-15-2006 06:44 AM

I think you're confused Spacedog, no way in hell you were doing 100mbps with comcast, most likely it was 5mbps which is plenty fast. You'll be fine with 3mbps dsl, that works for me and its only a tiny bit slower than my cable connection.
