I Love Little Brown Asses: My Thai review (with pics)

As stated in an earlier thread, I wanted to order some Thai food, but had zero experience, luckily several GFYer's, including Little Brown Asses and escorpio stepped up with some temptations. Unfortunately, spinach is still not being served around here (which totally sucks . . . I would rather risk the illness and get my spinach, but I digress).

I ended up opting for Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice.

I did not realize they were preparing the meal here, but they brought the main course over, pre-cooked.

.

.

The first dish I tried was the Pad Thai

It was quite enjoyable. It came with a wedge of lime that I utilized about 10 minutes into it, and it was a nice addition. I will probably buy another for the leftovers.

I then tried the Pineapple Fried Rice.

As it is made with shrimp, chicken, cashews, raisins, pineapple, and the menu said it was served in a pineapple shell, I expected it to be almost dessert-like. However, as you can see by the above picture, their idea of a pineapple shell and mine differed significantly, or Thai pineapples just aren't in season.

It was good, but a little dry.

As you can see, there are plenty of leftovers,

and I am stuffed.

For $20, not bad, but I think I will try something else besides the rice next time, or else wait until the pineapple is riper.

hmm, looks pretty good...

Some Thai restaurants offer a buffett - that's cool because you can sample lots of different food and see what suits you best. Then you simply learn the name of it for future reference.

Living in the middle of nowhere in middle of our country I can only dream of Thai food. The nearest place to me is Chez Thui (is that spelled right) in Boulder and that is four hours away. Oh how I miss it.

nikki99 11-15-2006 12:47 AM

yummmmmmmmmmmm

You're a man of your word, and I appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the Pad Thai. I'd make excuses for the rice and the styrofoam pineapple, but I'm not invested enough in your local Thai restaurant to back them up. :1orglaugh It sounds like you'd have Thai food again, so mission accomplished.

I've never heard of ANY restaurant bringing pre-cooked food over and cooking it my house, so that must be a specialty. If I had known that, I would have asked for pics of the little Thai teen that sat in your kitchen making you dinner :thumbsup

As a return on your good word, I present to you pictures from what I'll be having for dessert tonight:

marko13 11-15-2006 01:26 AM

that food looks very good....

Looks better than the chocolate mousse I had.

Pad Thai is usually too spicy for me because I am a wimp when it comes to hot food but I do enjoy a lot of Thai food that is more spice for flavour than spice for heat.

I did not think any of this was "hot" spicy in the least.

Phad Thai should never be spicy but they do serve dried chilis on the side to sprinkle on top.

BTW there are a ton more Thai dishes that you'll enjoy but they will never be like the ones they serve in the motherland.

On there contrary, there's a great seafood place on Walking that has it. I wouldn't exactly consider it traditional Thai food, but they got it :)

reynold 11-15-2006 06:46 AM

Hot girls and tasty food--exactly what we need in every vacation. :winkwink:

RawAlex 11-15-2006 07:16 AM
