PS3 question

Will the floodgates open after xmas/new years and the ridiculous ebay prices go down? I mean, will start to be 'available' for retail prices in all the shops? How long will the frenzy last? Any suggestions? How long was xbox360 out of stock? Wasn't it launched like a year ago?

Sony is notorious for slow production. :(

Sony wants at least 1.2 million units (they are looking for 2 million) in North America by Christmas. They won't get that many... I say they'll get barely over a million total before Christmas. You are looking at 420,000 units in North America, 80,000 in Japan at launch. After that it's going to be hard to get it probably until April of next year.

You are looking at 1200-1400 minimum during these Christmas months on fleabay, so the prices are going to be hottest at the beginning and remain high into January. It'll peak after the Christmas period most likely but they will still be 300-400 more than at the store on fleabay for quite some time to come.

Yeah, I know. The launch for the european version is in march. I figured I'd get a few sometime in february or so from the US/canada and sell them on finnish version of eBay. :)
I just don't see a point in buying them from ebay for fucking expensive, then pay customs and try to sell them for €1500 to break even. :)

Yeah, would be hard to do with customs. Good luck regardless. I'm in for a couple of long days on it myself, going to start early the 16th at Walmart with five to seven people, then head to Best Buy after midnight (with someone waiting in line there just in case). If my pre-orders come in, it'll get me at least fifteen, I'm hoping twenty. :thumbsup

Ask the seller to put a $50 price tag on the package and you won't pay anything at customs.

Thats what I usually do.

That's what I usually try to do too, but sometimes bigger packages still get opened and inspected.

Yeah... I called all the walmarts here and none of them knew how many they were getting. In fact the only store here that had a # was Best Buy and they claimed they were getting twenty-one of them. I figure I'd hit at least one Walmart (and based on the line, if any) try another Walmart, then head to either Best Buy or Target and camp out there. I don't really see a huge line either (least in this shitty ass state)... but you never know, could be like the seventh coming of Jesus.

Also they say you wait @ the layaway department for them lol, I thought that was pretty weird. I don't even know where the layaway place is in walmart, need to go scout the various ones and see. Bleh, I'm going right now, don't want any mistakes for such easy money.

Good luck with your ventures!

I think the north american version won't be the same as the european version, but I could be wrong.

Oh? As far as I understood it's the same all over. Since the format 1080p is 'universal', there's no difference between PAL or NTSC. Also I don't think the power-cord is non-removable. So I can just use the cord from say my radio or ps2 or whatever. I might be wrong, but I'm sure someone will let me know at some point. Besides, I can always order them, if they don't work (gonna test before I sell them of course), I can give them away for affiliates or something ;)

It's not wasted money, regardless.

The 360 launched in Nov 2005 and were hard to find until about March 2006. After that you could walk into any store and buy one.

Sosa 11-14-2006 08:21 AM

good luck finding one. I'm just going to wait it out and probably pick up a wii for now.
