Removing Sidebar in Wordpress?

How do I completely remove the sidebar from a word press 2.x series blog?

BradM 11-13-2006 05:06 PM

Edit the template and remove the section referencing the sidebar.

Which template file and which section? I removed the include sidebar without any luck and also deleted the sidebar contents.

It depends on the template, but if you use a template that normally has a sidebar, it will look ugly without, so you'd maybe better off with a new one column template...

looks like you did it properly :thumbsup

go into edit index.php and remove

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

If you mean that the content isn't moving over because you removed the sidebar, it won't. It's simple to change it, though. Just look in the stylesheet for the container tag that's approximately 450px or so and change it to 750px or so.

All depends on the theme and your content. I know some blogs that work better w/o them. :2 cents:

index.php template or index.php? I removed it from the template, i will try it from the www/ directory.

The sidebar didn't have anything useful on it so until I find some banners that convert with the sites low traffic theres no point of putting anything else.

just hire someone from xlabor to do it

make all your themes files writeable on the web server

go into your wordpress admin and go to edit theme

select MAIN INDEX TEMPLATE

find <?php get_sidebar(); ?> and remove it
