That's some scary news. Could this be another war? Hope not.

You never know, China might just sneak up out of nowhere someday and destroy the U.S. They're probably plotting and planning all kinds of shit...

fetishblog 11-15-2006 02:45 PM

The USS Kitty Hawk was in international water and was *NOT* in a declared exlusion zone, therefore the Chinese sub was well within international law to come within 5 miles of the carrier. Just a reminder to the guys in the sonar room to keep their ears peeled. =)

sarettah 11-15-2006 02:50 PM

A diesel submarine running on battery power is the quietest sub going. Passive sonar has problems detecting it even at a very close range.

However, a diesel submarine running quietly can in no way make enough speed to keep up with a Carrier group running under normal operating conditions.

This is probably a case of the carrier group going right over the top of the diesel sub rather than the sub shadowing the group. But it would be more embarassing and far less provocative to say that our equipment didn't pick up the sub.

Just my :2 cents:

China's either going to take over the US economically and start imposing their will that way or they're just going to kick the shit out of the US militarily and start the re-education camps and party indoctrination.

Short of all-out nuclear war, we'll lose. If we shoot, they shoot and everybody loses.

If you don't think it'll come to that...read "The Art of War", which is required reading for every Chinese child by 8th grade and think again.

That article seems designed to create fear and anger towards the Chinese.

Hopefully most people can take it all with a grain of salt.

Stop it, you're scaring me. Will it be like C&C or them Dune games where you wait and wait and wait building a huge fucking group of tanks and shit, then throw it all at his base at the same time to overwhelm?

First, the Chinese economy is still very small when compared to the US. We're talking 19% of the US economy, and this after the rapid advancements it has made over the last 10 years. Even at this rate of growth (which is simply not substainable for long periods of time), they wouldn't even reach the US level for over half a century. Over 20% of the exports from China are to the US, while almost every major piece of high end machinery is imported from the US. They need us very badly.

Second, how would we lose a war with China? We still have a signifigant edge technology wise on China, and our economy is setup so that we could withstand heavy military spending much better than China could long term. We have strategic allies throughout the region and would have a signifigant edge from that standpoint.

BTW the Chinese economy is bigger than the British economy and the 4th largest in the World

the sad reality is that 20 years ago it was the good guys (the US) vs the bad guys (USSR and the communist block), today is the bad guys (US - the I'll torture you because you have a beard) vs the bad guys (China - the I'll torture you for political reasons)

I try not to look at it as a good vs bad type thing. Do I think the US has some bad leaders right now? Yes. But I don't think that makes us "the bad guys". I think this recent election shows that the US is good, and just got taken down the wrong path by a horrible man.

I'm sure if we went to China, talked to the people, went out, we'd find out that that country is filled with good people as well. We shouldn't stereotype countries by a few leaders.

anyone who deosn't realize that the american government is sitting on the edge of a very slippery slope is just plain stupid. the usa is walking themselves head first into ww3, and there is nothing to blame for this but good old american ignorance. it is coming, maybe not in our generation, but i wouldn't doubt it. the point is going to come where they push the wrong buttons with someone, and just who knows who's going to take sides with who when then time comes? the american military/government has done a great deal to piss off alot of people. history repeats itself, and all great empires fall. anyone who genuinely believes that america is an unrivalled power is just ignorant. i am really pretty bent by the fact that my nation will undoubtedly be sucked into fighting for a side which i believe will probably have brought all of the gunfire upon itself. i can only hope it doesn't come to that.
