Is the dollar thread for real?

Is XonDemand really paying $1 per post?

Is it smart to do that?

Is there a catch?

What do you think? That thread is out of control :pimp

Nicky 11-13-2006 11:56 AM

No idea if it's for real, but it would be stupid to not pay anyone since it would really be bad publicity for them (or good) :)

polish_aristocrat 11-13-2006 11:57 AM

who cares, its closed already :error

Yes, not paying would be stupid. But then, paying sounds stupid too. So what am I missing? :helpme

loreen 11-13-2006 11:58 AM

yeah, real and gone :)

Zuss 11-13-2006 11:58 AM

Why is it closed?

Tuga 11-13-2006 11:59 AM

Game over :)

gfx3 11-13-2006 11:59 AM

Well if it wasn't real they lost their face towards the GFY community. Why wouldn't it be real? Other companies pay 100$ for every 100th post and they pay 1 $ per post so I don't see the problem.

tehHinjew 11-13-2006 12:00 PM

lol i hope so he owes me 24 $

xclusive 11-13-2006 12:01 PM

Nicky 11-13-2006 12:09 PM

If it wasnt for the limited to 500 posts per person I could have belived it, if it was limited to 50 posts per person it has been done before sometimes by pussycash and AFF I think?

madawgz 11-13-2006 12:10 PM

A tip for you: tell me how much do they give away total in those threads, and tell me how much XoD was giving away. There's a surprise for you if you get it right. Idiot.

If it's real it's a good exercise in branding and brand awareness. It's a known fact that one of the best ways to increase brand awareness is to get your target market to say your brand name, repeat your brand name, repeat again....I forget how many times is the magic number for brand recollection...but whatever it is, I think several posters crossed that mark in the thread.

if you will notice in most sales pitches where the salesman walks you through the pitch they get you to imbed the brand in your brain by making you say the name during the pitch...at least once or twice.

How much would you pay to get your name branded and to be an instant recall for a particular market segment? $1 per time to have someone repeat it....it's a heck of a lot cheaper than other advertising methods...

As VOD is making a stratospheric rise as a digital delivery medium of choice, many websites will be shifting to a VOD upsell or theater at some point in the future, if they haven't already... so why not be the brand everyone recollects when VOD comes to mind?

If it's not real.....well I would not want to be on the receiving end of that conversation....and if the thread was a hacked post..... I would think that the company managers would surely decide to payout on it anyway....rather than have the negative cloud over their program in the future..

madawgz 11-13-2006 12:24 PM

ah i found it...does anyone know why its closed?

madawgz 11-13-2006 12:27 PM

now i understand, yeah i think everyone will get paid..i dont see why not

viki 11-13-2006 12:28 PM

I think they anticipated that the thread would get shut down before they would go broke - very smart idea and I'm sure they'll pay.

Mr. Romance 11-13-2006 12:29 PM

its closed...i guess they second guessed it

Tuga 11-13-2006 12:32 PM

Maybe they asked GFY to close it fast :)

Spunky 11-13-2006 12:35 PM

GFY doesn't like those post the most contests and I guess this rule
And since only top advertisers can run contests, you need to coordinate with Eric BEFORE starting a contest.

4Man 11-13-2006 12:38 PM

I think it is pretty good deal

Ok here you go, this is what VOD offered:
__________________________________________________ ____________

Have you Heard of the Dollar Store well now we have the Dollar Thread...

First Time ever, The Dollar Thread.... $1.00

everyone who posts get's $1.00
that's right, you post and get $1.00 per post...

limited to 500 posts per user... ONLY GFY users hehe...

start posting...
__________________________________________________ _____________

Other companies offer contests where they award every 100th post in the thread with 100$ or every 50th post with 50$. I hope you can follow so far.
Those contests run until 5000 or even 10000 or more posts are made, depending on the particular rules of that contest and the amount of money the sponsor is willing to invest in the contest.

If 10000 posts can be made and every 100th one gets 100$ the sponsor needs to pay out 10,000 $ to the winners.

Vod went for the 1$ per post method where anybody could post a maximum of 500 posts but they did not mention the total of posts that could be made so in theory they could have closed down the thread whenever they felt their promo budget was reached. So if they let the thread run until 10,000 posts were made in total they would have had to pay out the exact same amount as in a 10,000 posts contest where every 100th post gets rewarded with 100$.

Summary:

10,000 posts devided by 100$ for every 100th post=10000$

10,000 posts devided by 1$ per post = 10000$

*If xod had 15000 or even 20000$ to spend they could have allowed 15 or 20K posts to be made, that would be totally up to them and their budget.

I hope I made the calculations more than clear enough for you to understand. I would feel sorry for you if you wouldn't have such a big mouth.

E$_manager 11-13-2006 02:30 PM

I missed it. :(

scottybuzz 11-13-2006 02:55 PM

99% of the contests out there are not that generous, that's your first mistake.

In theory they could close it after 10 posts. And, in theory they could close it after 50k posts, because people here would reach 50k posts easily with those rules.

That's why I asked, what's the catch? Because they didnt say enough about the contest.

Now do the math again but keep in mind that you screwed up on the $100 prize for every 100th post, that's not the usual GFY contest. And also keep in mind the 20 posts per day and 100 posts per user limits that go with it. And then shut the fuck up.

I have seen many generous contests on these boards, AFF has had tons of contests where they offer 100$ for every 100th post. Companies are giving away a Ferrari or a Hummer, they pay 20K to skin these boards so they have substantial budgets for branding and advertising towards webmasters.

You asked about the catch in your first post

I replied:
Well if it wasn't real they lost their face towards the GFY community. Why wouldn't it be real? Other companies pay 100$ for every 100th post and they pay 1 $ per post so I don't see the problem.

You quoted me on that by saying:
You dont see the problem because you're a dumb post whore. Learn math.

This has nothing to do with math you know that now do you. The only thing I'm seeing now is that you know you are in the wrong and try to squeeze out and save your face by calling in the "general posting rules" and "what the usual gfy way is" to hold a contest. Almost every contest has different posting rules about the amount you can post per day and during the length of the contest, and every company has a different amount of money they wish to spend in their contest threads. Some have 5 K and while others have 50K or even a 150 K Ferrari in their budget. You got "owned" by your own big mouth and you know it. Two weeks ago there was a posting contest where 250$ was offered for every 100th post so your arguments are weak.

The debate is over try to show some general courtesy towards people you don't know, it won't hurt you, right now you earned a spot just below squishypimp and you have your big mouth to thank you for that.
