One bad thing when you're a horror fanatic....

scary movies don't easily scare you.

Bah!

I can't remember the last movie that gave me chills.

What (if any) movies scared you?

tony286 11-12-2006 10:50 PM

At the end of Final Destination II, where in the background that kid is over at the barbecue and get's blown to bits.... shit that made me laugh.

Had that same scene been included in a movie from the 50's or 60's, or even the 70's for that matter, it would have chilled the piss out of most people.

There was another scene in that film where some cord or wire was shot through the air (I'm going on memory here, correct me if I've got it wrong) at super speed and goes right through someone, a chick I think. She stands there for a second, then she falls apart in 2 or 3 pieces. Again... I had to laugh.

It takes a horror flick with something more in it than that kind of wanton shock f/x to "get me going" with the phear. Needless to say it's been quite a long time since I was really given a good fright by a movie.

ok, let's include thrillers and psychological suspense

You all are thinking of slasher flicks.

yes, those are stupid

Spunky 11-12-2006 11:06 PM

I had to admit that the Exorcist scared the shit out of me,but I think I was 12 at the time

Its been a long time since a great flick was made the truly scared people and had them looking over their shoulders as they made their way back to the car..
For me thrillers and psychological suspense get to me more then a slasher movie.

The timing of that movie... as in it being made in the 70's when certain f/x were just coming available for use in films, and people at that time were ripe pickings for a good scarefest... was impeccable.

Same with Jaws, Amittyville, the original "When a stranger calls", The Omen etc.... they all came out at just the right time and they ALL scared the crap out of a lot of people.

Had they not been made back then but were put in theatres today would they have as much of an overall impact? I'm doubtful that they would.

Saw/Saw II, although interesting to watch, well... what can I say? I'm just not sure what it's going to take for a movie to chill me like some did 30 years ago.

Hm, I don't even like horror movies.. I like thrillers :thumbsup

Very few horror fans love this movie but Jeepers Creepers is one horror film that scared me the most.
