Filming in the Philippines, Coppola cleverly juxtaposed an actual animal sacrifice by members of the indigenous Montagnard tribe from Vietnam who perform the ritual to ensure good crops, with the fictionalized killing of Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando).
Perhaps PETA would object but it is hard to tell if they could do much more than protest if the scene were shot today. Of course, if they had their way, the movie would have to be totally changed and called "Peace Now". :winkwink:
How ironic that last night I watched Marlon Brando in "Last Tango In Paris". Even the uncut version I saw on DVD would be able to make it on HBO by today's standards, although the movie was slapped with an X rating back in 1972 when it was released.
