lets talk a bit about registerfly

Its my favorite domain registrar but seems like they had a lot of problems lately, at least I had a lot of problems with them.
I wanted to see if other people are having as well and your thoughts on their reliability.

Because a lot of my domains are registered with them, im also planinig to use bunch of other services they offer, and i want to make sure that they are not going anywhere anytime soon :)

So if you have some information on their stability and plans for near future i'll be happy if you share it :)

Vigilante 11-12-2006 12:05 PM

As far as i know most people here hate registerfly.

i am with them too and their support system sucks. a few weeks ago they deleted my supportrequest without even answering it and their "live support" is a joke i think.

BucksMania 11-12-2006 12:06 PM

what happens with your domains if the regisrar goes down for some reason?

Interesting question but i hope there are some mechanisms to prevent domains beeing lost if that woukld happen but canīt say for sure.

Do you see any signs that registerfly will go down in near future?

DaddyHalbucks 11-12-2006 12:17 PM

RegisterFly sucks.

All serious domainers use this registrar:

http://www.moniker.com

Project-Shadow 11-12-2006 12:39 PM

I love registerfly.. I just pray nothing ever goes wrong :1orglaugh

:thumbsup

Just Google registerfly and see what comes up :)
Here's a few listings...

'While I don't really have time to write up the whole thing right now, the short of it: my domain (killfile.org) was lost because RegisterFly, then my domain ...'

'6 weeks after the cancellation Registerfly.com hit my credit card for another ... Registerfly has been charging my credit card every two to three days for ...'

'I got the email, logged in to RegisterFly and setup the DNS. ... Then registerfly had about 40 hours of downtime in 3 days, which they later downplayed to a ...'

And be sure to check out http://registerflies.com/ :winkwink:

Moniker and Namecheap work well for me

xtraeye 11-12-2006 01:19 PM

In the last couple of weeks, when I register a domain and set my nameservers, it all propagates fine. Next day, they automatically change back the registerfly's default. I the change them back, all is fine. Then they will go back to default again. Seems to take a couple a times to make em stick. Very strange!

I can't tell but the fact i started this thread means that im a bit unsecure about them....

for example, couple of weeks ago i paid for couple .tv domains only to understand few days later that they didn't register them
i had to try 2-3 times before i finally was owning them.....now imagine if they were unavailable already?
When i started a support ticket about the problem they just refunded without caring to help to register the domains.

Another thing, i had to try 3 TIMES to renew a domain, everytime the renew process was failing, and finally i managed to renew it on the last day when the domain was expiring.....

and bunch of other small things

when we add to that the support often answer totally unadequate, sometimes i have the feeling that im talking to monkey!

things like that can't be good sigh for the future of a company

the problem is that i have too many domains with them and only the trasnfering them to another registrar will cost me a small fortune....

Tuga 11-12-2006 03:07 PM

The renewal process this year sucks, everything else is fine.

quantum-x 11-12-2006 03:13 PM

they are quite happy to let people hijack your domains - WARNING.

Spudstr 11-12-2006 03:16 PM

i've had domains fail their renewal everyday a week before they expired and then two weeks AFTER it expired trying every day. Registerfly's response was their old registrar since they were a reseller (enom) was not being compliant. registerfly is its own registrar now and is moving all domains/renewals to their own system. and blaming enom on not beign compliant with the transfers.

in other words, registerflys system flat out sucks and can't handle it.

Violetta 11-12-2006 03:48 PM

I've had TONS of shit with Registerfly.com... :( their Renewing and support sucks

crockett 11-12-2006 03:56 PM

They were good for me for quite some time.. However the last 6 months or so they have gone down hill pretty bad. I haven't lost any domains but I've had a hell of a time renewing anything lately.

Right now I have a domain that is expired today and won't renew. Called on the phone and they "claim" tomorrow it will be good. I think one this one renews I'm going to move my remaining name over to namecheap.

I stopped buying new names at registrfly when people first started having issues however I didn't at that time feel the need to transfer them away. Now after a few names have expired and been down a few days b4 they renewed I'm not leaving anything with them.

Matiz 11-12-2006 04:40 PM

lyn1 11-12-2006 04:44 PM

I lost a domain registration through registerfly. I couldn't renew it and if finally dropped of their list.

Lucky it wasn't an important domain.

BucksMania 11-13-2006 05:59 PM

thank you all for the opinions!
I'm starting to move all my important domains away, the question is which registrar to choose?

as i can see moniker.com charges 18.99$ for a .com??????

marketsmart 11-13-2006 05:59 PM

you know, you could switch to namecheap, they are great :thumbsup

fusionx 11-13-2006 07:03 PM

I moved around 180 domains from registerfly to namecheap after the renewal fiasco.

I still get messages from registerfly telling me I need to renew my domains.

They are all still listed there, some expired, some still in the current domains list. :helpme

I'm sick of these idiots.

Namecheap has been great so far. No issues whatsoever, great support - very fast, and you get free DNS protection with each domain. Plus all the other crap like DNS hosting, of course. Their bulk management tool is perfect, I think. Unlock, lock, push, transfer, everything works great.

No - I don't work for them or get kickbacks :1orglaugh

latinasojourn 11-13-2006 07:44 PM

registerfly is without a doubt the very WORST registrar you can use.

srsplus is one of the best, but not the cheapest now.

sounds very good :) thanks for the info :)

since when they are around and are they primary registrar or reseller?

shake 11-14-2006 04:57 PM

Register Fly is CRAPPY.

My latest problem - I sold another one of my mainstream domains, and they are basically holding it hostage.

I've unlocked it, all my fees are paid up (until 2016 for this domain) and they respond to my support questions after about 48 hours or so, with something to the effect of "the domain is unlocked so it should transfer fine" then I send a response back in 5 minutes, and have to wait another 2 DAYS for them to respond... I'm probably going to loose this sale even though the money is in Escrow at this point.

I'm quite sure directNIC on the other end of the transfer is doing everything right.

I've used directNIC, Godaddy, register4less, enom, etc in the past and they've all been great.

bdld 11-14-2006 05:21 PM

you get what you pay for, i've picked up tons of .net's at 2.99 at registerfly.. and i'm looking to transfer them to a good home that won't charge too much.

Yup :) you got it.

I think domains are important enough that it's worth paying a little extra to make sure they are safe.
