Capturing thumbs from MPEGS - any free software that does this well?

I'm sure there is a piece of free software that does this well, so any movie gallery makers out there please let me know which one is good and is free.

thanks

Try ThumbsPlus (not expensive), but free download may have this function. Also try TMPCEnc. Free, no instructions, I think but not hard to use.

:2 cents:

Pause the video at the frame you want to capture, and press "Prt Scrn" / "Print Screen" (varies from keyboard to keyboard) - this copies your current desktop to the clipboard.

Then open up the image editor of your choice and hit CTRL+V :winkwink:

Hmmm... very strange...

when I use print screen or screenhunter of an MPG they both end up black .jpgs??

I had this problem before with my computer - then something happened one day with a codec or something and I could take pics of mpegs no problem from that point on - but this other new comp with winXP is coming up blank...

any ideas?

thanks

Is there software that will go through the video and create pics of every X amount of frames or seconds?

Use a program called SnagIt

can download a trial here http://www.techsmith.com/

works a treat :)

Those are the lame ways to capture thumbs. Just load the mpeg in virtual dub and hit CTRL 1, then paste in a graphics program. It will just paste the movie clip -- not the entire desktop/window.
