What's the difference between the Japanese PS3 and the American PS3?
Can you play japanese ps3's in america with american games? how exactly does it work...?

It's been awhile so I can't be 100% sure, but I think their power supply is different. i.e. 50Hz whereas NA is 60Hz... In the past, they also encoded the CDs (DVDs) differently so you couldn't play NA games in Japanese systems and the other way around as well. Whether the PS3 also has that limitation I can't say.

They are region-coded the last I heard, so a Jap machine won't play a U.S. game, and vice versa.

I guess what I read was the blu-ray movies are still region coded, as well as the PS2 and PS1 games when you stick them in the PS3.
PS3 games are region-free. |
