Make an easy buck (or two): Mini-DV
Hiya guys / gals,
who can assist me with burning NTSC based Mini-DV tapes onto CD- or DVD-Rom (.mov maybe?)? Problem is we've got here 2 Mini-DV tapes recorded in NTSC and in Europe we generally have only PAL system available, so we can't use them. What would your price be? They are about 60min each. wsjb78 |
Send it to us, we'll burn them on DVD-R as a favor. Most of the newest DVD players will play them.
|
Hi Lensman,
well, I intend to actually use and edit those tapes later on computer... I'm not sure what you exactely ment with burning as DVD-R so that most DVD-players can read it. Did you mean in DVD-format like the ones you connect to a TV? |

Wouldn't there be a loss in quality when you rip them from the DVs to DVD and then stream it back into the computer?
I admit, I have not so much experience with all that stuff but I happen to think you'll loose quality there because DVD is normally compressed.... |
DVD's are high quality; I think your confusing them with S/Vcd's.
|
Well, if you copy from DVs to your computer you normally save them as .mov or .mpeg or somethings.... there is already a loss in quality because of the compression. When you then convert them to a DVD you have again a loss due to compression. When you, at the end, rip the DVD you loose again quality... right?

hey here is a company i use often. just in case you may need any more help. www.dvdhemisphere.com

to answer the question above. you can capture it as .dv and lose no quality when converting to a dvd. the Canon gl1 that we use, we send our mini dv tapes out to have them converted to dvd and the quality of the dvd is usually a little better then the tape. If that helps you any.>>>>

Okay now.. how do you capture from DVD and stream or convert to mpeg1? Which software would do that? I think DVD would increase my editing speed :)
|
gee.. this ncst - pal shit really sucks ass.... is there any reasonable way to get ntsc stuff on pal devices??????
|
Lensman, you're offer is still valid? If so, please contact me at wsjb78 AT gmx.net .
THX! |
What I do is run my DV deck, Hi8 deck, or SVHS deck right to our DVD recorders. From there we make a glass master which is then used to make copies. The copies are then decoded straight to mpeg, asf, or whatever format our partners want. kosmic is correct in saying the quality is better because the DVD recorder actually filters the video and cleans its up considerably. And, the web video that comes from the DVD kicks the shit out of anything else you will find. If anyone needs this kind of work on a large scale let me know. We do video work for 3 of the largest content providers in Vegas.
