If you drink everyday even in low quantity do you have a dependance?

Lately I've found myself turning to having beer almost everynight to relax from stress of work and whatnot, but im getting a bit worried cuz I seem to be starting to crave for it on a daily basis. If I dont have any I can live with it but I dont feel like I can relax totally without it.... Anybody think it might be a problem or is it normal?

Mediachick 11-09-2006 04:06 PM

any opinion? bump.

squishypimp 11-09-2006 04:06 PM

if you feel the need for it, then yes. if you can live without it no.

Well its both. I do feel the need for it (sometimes more then others) but I can still live without it. Although if someone offers to have a drink, i can hardly decline it.

Shortbread 11-09-2006 04:10 PM

Rephrase the question and put smoking crack in place of drinking and see if your opinion changes. I think anything you do on a regular basis, especially if you crave doing it and really cant see yourself not doing it is an addition regardless of what it is (ie smoking, drinking, gambling etc)

True, but everybody knows that smoking crack can lead and WILL most likely lead to a major addiction and make you disfunctional in general although if the habit is 3-4 beers a night and be able to get to work and still take care of yourself? I wonder if that is really something to compare...

In my case I do crave it and feel like I wanna do it regularly but like I said above, if I dont its not like im going trough delirium tremens.... yet.

I dont know; im just stuck between the idea that I know ppl can hardly decline a piece of cake but nobody call them freaks because of that. For example, im addicted much more to cigarettes then alcohol. Guess it depends on the substance.

What more do I need to know ; is there ppl in here that went trough the same kind of situation at some point in their lives and just went over it or did they just keep getting more and more into it until it created a real problem. I think my question is more clear now :)

he-fox 11-09-2006 04:53 PM

Drinking a glass of red wine or a beer daily it´s actually good for your health.
More = you have a drinking problem.

marketsmart 11-09-2006 04:54 PM

my shrink says that is not alcholism or dependance.... he says that if you need to get more after you are out, that is dependance...

but who know, what the fuck to head shrinkers know... other than whats in the textbooks they read...

Angry 11-09-2006 04:55 PM

There are different degreees of alcoholism. Those that must drink every minute of the day, those that must have a few drinks a day, those that must have one drink a day... all the way down to those that must drink once a year say on New Years Eve but they do it EVERY FUCKING YEAR. Believe it or not, their is a psychological dependence there... not physical... yet.

Scott McD 11-09-2006 04:56 PM

I always have a few bottles of beer at night as i'm finishing up work at night.

No harm done, and helps me sleep... :pimp

Sosa 11-09-2006 04:58 PM

I usually have atleast one drink 5 times a week probably. Don't often drink much where it affects me in a negative way like not working etc.

tony286 11-09-2006 05:00 PM

stop for a week and see how it goes. I had a roommate who drank almost a bottle of scotch every night, he didnt have a problem he would decide not to drink for a month and touch nothing. He just really enjoyed it.

Thats exactly what I do... I dont get wasted or go for hard liquor... but still sometime when I think back and realize I have not had one night without a beer, im like, geeze...

declining or not declining a piece of cake is not a daily event. EVERYONE here has the opportunity to eat cake everyday, but they dont (except for headless). - your analogy is more or less an expression of denial and trivializing and downplaying the issue - which is your concern about your own drinking.

i am not a specialist in addictive behaviors or anything.. but the moment you realized you have trouble saying "no", it seems to me you are saying two things: 1) I realize that there is a problem 2) I realize on some level that problem/behavior is not healthy

what other people do or do not do, has nothing to do with you as an individual and whether or not you have a problem.
:2 cents:

Dirty Dane 11-09-2006 05:05 PM

2-3 glasses each day does not kill you. Its actually healthy if you drink redwine.
Smoking is much much worser.

s9ann0 11-09-2006 05:20 PM

yea maybe a bit

fallenmuffin 11-09-2006 05:25 PM

Most likey.. go a day or two without drinking and see if you are craving it and need it to function..

soulbleed 11-09-2006 05:27 PM

if its worrying you, then stop it.

Yeah I hear you. Im just worried if this kind of behavior would get worse eventually. For now it doesnt affect me physically but it does worries me since I was never use to do it so often and not for the same reasons either.

but hey, just on the other hand; america is populated with overweight ppl that put their health at serious risk because they cannot decline fattening food on a daily basis... the question wasnt about a piece of cake but about something consumed often enough to bring yourself to a dangerous state. So yeah to me it is something that most ppl can be confronted to everyday.

BlackCrayon 11-09-2006 05:41 PM

if you smoke cigs daily i'd be more concerned about that than a few beers.

anyway... a little red flag already went up in your mind. that should really be all you need to know. there is a reason to always trust that feeling in your gut.. its because thats your subconscious mind being honest with you before you have the chance to intellectualize and rationalize the situation and start lying to yourself.

i drink about 2-3 times a year. i used to drink daily. i stopped because i got real concerned about it. alcohol is a social lubricant... not a crutch :) if you "like" to drink everyday... most likely, there is some underlying reason thats fueling that behavior.

E$_manager 11-09-2006 07:34 PM

Yes. You even wouldn't notice when you become addictive to beer. You will keep saying that this is just the taste of it that you like. But keep in mind - you are addicted :(

spooky181 11-09-2006 08:15 PM

Iv'e drunk 3,4 or 5 beers a night for over 20 years. Never drink before 6pm (fuck knows why) never get rolling drunk but I know I just enjoy my life better if I drink that amount. I can go a week without drinking, n don't feel the craving or anything so for that reason I don't feel like i'm an alcho, but too easily get into the habit of drinking.

My brother found out I drink every night even when on my own, n said I was an "alcho" my reply to him was that I felt I wasnt an alcho I was just a "loser"

hehe a very rich loser (he doesn't know about my night job):pimp

shekinah 11-09-2006 09:08 PM

Well for me it's okay to drink a bottle everyday..

tehHinjew 11-09-2006 09:13 PM

what does dependance mean lke you dont have to wear a diaper?
any ways today i had a check up and i didnt eat shit, at lunch i didnt bother eating because i lost my apatite from the doc opening my stiches in my mouth... well any ways i came home, didnt eat jack, then i had a beer and im still tipsy lol

Oh I have no problem admitting its not just for the taste! I mean I do like it, but my main reason is ultimatly the feeling of relaxation it brings me...

Gasper 11-10-2006 11:02 AM

You might live a lil' shorter if you drink a beer / day. Alcohol kills cells dude!

Gasper 11-10-2006 11:03 AM

Oh, and you allready are addicted.

Adult Search Results 11-10-2006 11:10 AM

a glass of wine or 2 bottles of beer a day is actually healthy for you, but not more than that

thaifan99 11-10-2006 11:14 AM

were all dependant on one thing or another. no biggie having a few drinks

The SEO Hippy 11-10-2006 11:39 AM

No, one or two beers or wines a day doesn't make you dependent, clinically. You may have a drinking habit, but you don't fit the diagnosis for dependence or abuse for that matter - unless those one or two beers starts getting in the way of your functioning.

angeleyes 11-10-2006 11:48 AM

yes, been there/done that/quit.... moderation leads to more and it sneaks up on you and bites you in the ass in SOME cases.
