Oh man, I wish I had your optimism. In reality, we've only slowed the gears of the machine that set out to destroy us. 2 of the 3 branches of Gov't are still in conservative hands, and the new Secretary of Defense is from - where? - TEXAS!

i'll say it again, the Democrats did NOT WIN. The Republicans lost. There is a huge difference. Don't for a second think that suddenly middle America decided abortion was okay, gay rights are the wave of the future, and that we're going Green and signing the Kyoto agreement.

The Democratic Party has become more moderate over time, and their agenda is in reality BARELY indistinguishable from the Republican agenda. All the shit that has been flung for the last few years has been POLITICS. Not policy, not a new direction, but school-yard name calling on a global scale. "George Bush is a moron" is NOT a political platform.

Don't forget how many of these fucking spineless hypocrits voted for the war in the first place. :2 cents:

StickyGreen 11-08-2006 11:22 PM

government is the problem, not the solution...

I LOVE Little Brown Asses 11-08-2006 11:34 PM

DO YOU REALLY THINK WE GOT RID OF THESE THINGS??????

Traits of Fascism from Umberto Eco (1995):

"The Cult of Action for Action's Sake", which dicatates that action is of value in itself, and should be taken without intellectual reflection

"Disagreement is Treason" - fascism devalues intellectual discourse and critical reasoning as barriers to action.

"Fear of Difference", which fascism seeks to exploit and exacerbate, often in the form of racism or an appeal against foreigners and immigrants.

"Obsession With a Plot" and the hyping-up of an enemy threat. This often involves an appeal to xenophobia or the identification of an internal security threat.

"Pacifism is Trafficking With the Enemy" because "Life is Permanent Warfare" - there must always be an enemy to fight.

"Newspeak" - fascism employs and promotes an impoverished vocabulary in order to limit critical reasoning.

and my favorite:

"Selective Populism" - the People have a common will, which is not delegated but interpreted by a leader. This may involve doubt being cast upon a democratic institution, because "it no longer represents the Voice of the People".

its weird that people don't get this. "that guy is an idiot" is not a vision people can align themselves behind... its not a new direction, its not something to aspire towards, its not a dream for what people want the future to be, its not motivational.. its not inspirational.

partisan politics aside, democrats don't seem to have shit to offer either... like it has been for almost a decade now... people are simply voting against the other guy and not voting for a future they believe in and for the people they think can make it happen.

In fact this is completely bad news when it's so easy to simply change the whip from right hand to the left and people feel liberated.. it's a shame.. I expect this from a country like ummm Iraq.. wake up America!!!

Until someone comes along and offers a truly inspiring vision of the future, the best we can do as voters is to reject the worst alternatives.

That's what happened on Tuesday.

And that's why this can never be called a democracy. It never was. It never will be.

It's NOT a democracy, this is a common mistake people make. US government system is a Constitution-based federal republic with some democratic traditions.

I still dont get why people think democrats = freedom fighters. I hate the fundamentalist path republicans have taken latley, but the business person & tax payer inside me could never vote for a democrat (see fdr and the dildo he shoved up our ass with his "new deal"). The economy is strong, gas prices are low, and somehow or another the democrats are going to improve on that
??? mark my words, in less then a year were gonna be heading head first into a recession, and gas prices will skyrocket yet again, the dems will have started their cutbacks on funding for iraq to try and pressure bush, and troops will be even worse off equipment wise then they were at the begining of iraq.... as for adult NOTHING will change.... SOME republicans may be out to prevent us from earning a living with adult, but damn near all democrats will cut into your earnings regardless of what your profession is. But hey if you like feeding a family thats not yours, and supporting failing government programs, then your a better man than I.

Some of the key issues people always bitch about (abortion, gay marriage, etc) are the least of our worries right this second.

Then perhaps you should welcome Tuesday's results. The only way today's republican party will ever consider blowing off the fundies is if they become convinced that not doing so will cost them more elections.

It's really as simple as that.

Hey cheer up, next time around the red team just might look like a far, far better choice than it does right now :2 cents:

In which case they're caught between a rock and a hard place.

To win consistently in this country you have to play to the center. Ask the democrats, every time they've strayed too far to the left they've gotten their clocks cleaned at the polls. Until recently the republicans were much, much better at playing the middle (even Reagan), but no more.

Hell, they're actually starting to scare people now.

Next time you bump into your grandfather ask him to tell you about Barry Goldwater :upsidedow

Democracy for some, tiny American flags for others.
