Mandatory download: Google Earth.

I've heard about Google Earth before but the other night, right after Conan, Carson Daily had a short segment on Google Earth and I was amazed. It's this kick-ass program that uses satellite images in an interactive environment, allowing you to zoom in to wherever you want in the world, with so many options.

I know there have been other threads on this, but this is my own. If you haven't heard about this, check it out right now: http://earth.google.com

All those other maps/directions/satellite view websites you know will become secondary, immediately. Once you download it, make sure to check out some of these cool sightseeing destinations:

The Eiffel Tower
The Golden Gate Bridge
The Grand Canyon

It's an application, you have to download it. Trust me, you won't be sorry.

:winkwink:

I agree, but they are just working with existing satalite images, which are about 4-6 years old. I have a feeling that we'll have live, if not way more recent snapshots from space, within the next three years or so.

Recent, maybe. I doubt any government in the world would allow a company to offer up live satellite images to the public.

Ace_luffy 11-08-2006 06:03 AM

WOW.... almost true ??

E$_manager 11-08-2006 06:09 AM

Yes, images are old, because on the place where i live there is no house in Google Earth.
But you can always learn what is the weather where you want to go. At least if there is sun or not.

it is excellent, and for pilots there is a utility which overlays sectional charts of the usa on top of the topography.

and it is very useful to get exact lon/lat coordinates to input into your GPS for flying or traveling.
