New Search engine to compete with Google

http://www.powerset.com

Look at the backers !

Nobody wants to beat Google but Bill. The rest of the world just wants to grow a nice specialty asset Google wants, needs or can be convinced it wants or needs, and be acquired.

I remember when Altavista was the default search engine for
almost everyone.

I remember when Infoseek was king shit and the best
there was and Disney fucked them up real quick.

Someone will come along and knock down Google just because they've
gotten too big.

how about Webcrawler haha

hydro 11-08-2006 04:58 AM

Google won't be taken over so easily, back then people didnt say "altavista it" and there weren't millions of pages with adsense on it and altavista never had as much media attention as google does. To overthrow google it would be like an auction site taking over ebay, or a website outgrowing amazon.com. Google is pretty much here to stay.

en21 11-08-2006 05:07 AM

love to see if there will be a good competitor one day :-)

Wiggles 11-08-2006 05:13 AM

google has owned them already, they just don't know it yet.

rodney25 11-08-2006 06:58 AM

Doesn't seem to be a tough competitor..

polle54 11-08-2006 07:13 AM

hmm

they did some of a test with 500k/day people a little in oktober it seems..

http://alexa.com/data/details/traffi...l=powerset.com

the project could be serious... who knows... I might try it out if it delivered more accurate results and less se spam.

DjSap 11-08-2006 07:50 AM

i've always thought google was going to get their asses handed to them one day and thus never invested in the stock...at least they have an acquisition strategy so it seems like it will take some time..

Sharky01276 11-08-2006 08:47 AM

Did u know google founders went to altavista first to sell them their software, altavista decided the purchase. Who's ever decision that was was a very very wrong one
