Just got back from Voting. Going back to the telephone banks. I've been doing volunteer work making calls for my political party to help get out the vote.

Jace 11-07-2006 07:52 AM

Hey BoyAlley, we haven't really kept up with local politics, but we wanna vote and make a difference....we usually only stuck with presidential elections in the past

i have done a little crash course online regarding our local election options, but what do you suggest for the voting options that we haven't read up on?

my wife says to just "vote democrat" any time we don't know what else to do, think that is wise?

StuartD 11-07-2006 07:54 AM

Voting is for sheep. Why vote just because others are doing it? If they jumped off a bridge, would do that too?

:upsidedow

Jace 11-07-2006 07:55 AM

jesus, reading this http://lpe.ajc.com/votersguide/general/area/10 is like reading a book

I am going to have to go in with a notes sheet just so I can remember who and what to vote for

I think it's VERY important to vote a straight democratic ticket, and is the only straight thing I ever do in my life.

However, I really don't want to turn this thread into a partisan debate. I think it's important for EVERYONE to vote, no matter what your party affiliation may be.

While I'm a STRONG supporter of the Democrats, I'm even a BIGGER supporter of Democracy, and making sure each person gets their voice heard!

NinjaSteve 11-07-2006 08:04 AM

StuartD 11-07-2006 08:04 AM

Pretty soon, the US ballots will read:

A: Vote for Republican
B: Vote against Democrat

Pick one.

Been that way for years. The new state amendments being proposed stop them for taking it for private or non-essential interests, which was OK'd by the Supreme Court last year. They could declare your property "blighted" or show a financial advantage to the area for taking it and do so, giving you only minimal market value.

Funny, thats how I felt all through the 70s and 80s about the Democrats.
Democrats controlled congress for 40+ years straight, from the 1940s onward.

MaddCaz 11-07-2006 08:34 AM

Why the fuck would you do this ?

There are a ton of Democrats that want to out law internet porn !

Does this mean that you'd vote for the Dem if she was pro gay but was against legal porn ?

billywatson 11-07-2006 10:37 AM

I'm about to. Right after my coffee. I found an article in the paper that goes over all the Propositions in my state.

Let's vote!

Or we can't complain when the Conservative Right tries to take our livelihood away from us.

Helix 11-07-2006 10:58 AM

voted - it only took 1 hr counting drive time. Only 1700 voters in my precinct, one of the benefits of rural living :)

Gabriel 11-07-2006 11:25 AM

Fill out your sample ballots, and take them with you!!

Hopefully you've had a couple weeks to read up on everyone and the measures/propositions.

bobby666 11-07-2006 11:54 AM

Done.

Our voting book, the one they send in the mail explaining all the issues, in LA was almost 200 pages this time.

As opposed to what... the republicans? They're all for the internet porn. :1orglaugh

You base that on what, exactly?? The democrats have introduced as many or more anti-porn bills than the republicans. Don't swallow the hype, look at the actual record.:2 cents:

RF_Erick 11-07-2006 12:55 PM

Tonights election coverage should be interesting!

pocketkangaroo 11-07-2006 12:56 PM

Both sides are against internet porn. But Dems are less crazy when it comes to it.

Again, you should take a look at the actual voting, commitee, and proposal records before you say that.... You're not correct.:(

sweetcuties 11-07-2006 01:16 PM

Let's be real... the difference is the evangelicals are on the republican side. Also, republicans tend to be elitest and their afraid of change. I heard some redneck politican asswipe on CNN earlier today... talking about What kind of America do you want? (Norman Rockwell) or Nancy Pilosi's America. Think about that statement... there was a hidden racist message. A "lilly white" America or America that include everyone. The world is changing and republicans are afraid of it :2 cents:

I do. Please show me where the Dems have been hardcore against porn. The child protection laws that added things to stop internet porn were added by Republicans.

The Republican President and Republican Attorney General called for their "war on porn". They are the ones that called the initiative "one of their top priorities". The Republican Attorney General said "adult pornography is a threat to families and children.".

So yeah, please explain how I'm not correct in saying that Republicans don't like porn.

Mr. Blue 11-07-2006 01:25 PM

Voted already :)

A painless process and done in a few minutes.
