When did SNL stop being funny?
 

Saturday Night Live has sucked for a long time now, but I remeber when I was a kid every single show used to crack me up, a lot.

Anyone know the year this show started to go downhill?

Early 90s were pretty good.

I would also take a guess and say it was around the time of adam sandler and chris farley

SNL has sucked for a long time, they have their moments but the SNL style of comedy is kind of old...

1995 is my guess - somewhere around there. Now it's just kind of painful to watch.

When Tina Fey left..

i remember when the show first started when i was in the 4th grade or so and we always watched it... through the years, it has ALWAYS been hit and miss and often hit and miss regardless of the cast. some casts were definately much better than others though.

Yeah but you got to admit that the last 10 years or so have been more than pathetic.

I stopped watching about 10 years ago

to be honest, i haven't really watched it much in the last 10 years. i agree. i am a huge fan of comedy but SNL just hasn't done it for me for a long time either, its one VH1 or on of those channels all the time and i just skip right past it. everyone once and a while,, it seems like they crank out a skit that is totally funny.... but for me, it usually doesn't justify sitting through the whole show.

How old is the show? 30 + years for sure...

The old SNL stuff made me laugh, but the recent episodes failed to make me laugh. I prefer watching MADTV.

95 is when it started to suck.

madtv has to be some of the worst shit i've ever seen.

I stopped watching it in the mid 90's. I don't find any of it funny now.

It started down the long road of boredom in 79 when John Belushi left.

It was OK through the mid 80's, then totally tanked in the 90's

Mid to late 90s, around the time when Norm MacDonald was fired because of his OJ simpson jokes.

Went downhill in the mid 90s when people like Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Dana Carvey and Adam Sandler left.

Since then, it's had a few standouts and a few great sketches, but nothing like it used to be.

I concur. I've tried watching it several times and it's been terrible every time. At least SNL has funny moments.

Wow I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

This season they started targeting a much younger demographic. So the show is definitely changing.

MadTV has good writers, but their actors and production are terrible.

It's sucked for more than a decade.
