I Love UK Comedy

Last night, i watched some real old classics:

Benny Hill

Are you be served

George And Mildred

On the Bus

One foot in the grave

some mothers do have em

You cant beat their comedy.

Webby 11-04-2006 05:14 PM

How about Faulty Towers, Blackadder and the various programs with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (eg in the roles of Derek and Clive) ? :winkwink:

A lot of the Cook/Moore content was amazingly dumped in the trash during a BBC cleanout. The BBC have since been trying to buy back copies they sold to other broadcasters over the globe and try and recover as much as possible. Typical :pimp

There is good stuff about but not generally sitcoms. In the last ten years we have had The Office, for example. As somebody mentioned, Peep Show and the guys behind that are good too. It is just the generations changing over. Most of the comedy out of the UK in the past 20 years has been from one Comic Strip member or another. They aren't spring chickens anymore.

hezochiah 11-05-2006 02:09 AM

I remember when I was about 10 years old going over my Grandma's house and finding some of my Uncle's records that he left there. One was Steve Martin's "Comedy Is Not Pretty" and the other one was "Monty Python's Next Record". Being 10 I didn't get all the jokes but it was still pretty damn funny and I've been hooked ever since. I have the complete Flying Circus and Faulty Towers series on DVD. I should go back and watch some of those again because it's been a while.

I nearly slapped myself when I heard myself using that line in a restaurant when the waitress told me I couldn't only have one side order because the computer would only take the order with two.

Red Dwarf is pretty much my favorite show of all time. Father Ted is also great.

He was great as Blackadder. I think the Mr.Bean film bombed over here as it genuinely wasnt good and that has kind of stuck. The TV series that was on a few years ago was better however it has become somewhat forgotten.

No-one will doubt his credentials though, and he can take on a cameo role and be brilliant like as one of the vicars in Four Weddings & a Funeral.

People think highly of Rowan Atkinson they just don't like Mr. Bean. I think mostly because so much of Atkinson's stuff until there was more 'low brow for the high brow set' and Mr. Bean is just low brow.

lambpie 11-05-2006 06:21 AM

im in the uk, the current big thing is little britain.. not sure if i like or not yet!

Jakke PNG 11-05-2006 06:35 AM

v4 media 11-05-2006 07:25 AM

Go back to the 50's/60's with Syd James, Hancock, Kenneth Williams and Hatty Jakes.. they are fucking funny.

True, black adder was so fucking good, doesn't get exported though because it's impossible to translate, the play on words in that series is amazing..

In Spain, Manuel from faulty towers comes from Mexico.

CuriousToyBoy 11-05-2006 07:26 AM

Blackadder was pure genious IMHO.
