GW Bush Blasted on Civil Rights record

http://library.northernlight.com/FD2...=1006&sc=0#doc

"Civil Rights" is a broad term. GW Bush' [and Republicans'] focus on civil rights is EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. Democrats and Jesse Jackson define "Civil Rights" as EQUAL RESULTS.

Although there's a little bit of hand me down success [e.g. Harvard's "legacy" admission program--if your grandfather went to Harvard you get preferential treatment], for the most part, America was built on EQUAL OPPORTUNITY.

Or "it takes money to make money" But given the history of immigrant Jews and Asians in America, success does not necessarily breed success....determination, self-discipline, and sacrifice builds success.

or put another way, the poor don't recognize the determination, self-discipline, and sacrifice of the rich.

Difference in values?

Actually, you can almost sense who is going to be "successful" based on their possession of these values. I have a new Vietnamese neighbor--he told me that when he came to this country most of his fellow refugees/asylees were too busy worrying about working for someone else--getting a job. He was already thinking of owning apartment buildings. Now, 11 years later, the guy owns acres upon acres of strip malls in LA and San Diego.

No affirmative Action. No massive government subsidies. No "make work" programs. No victim mentality. No bullshit! Just the ability to smell opportunity, the willingness to work hard, the courage to fail, and the ability to see things most other people ignore or can't see. 100% Pure American Success!

Yep, all shapes, sizes, colors, creeds....but everyone seems to share the same values. Although there are some "Daddy's Money" kids down on the other block. :)

Bill Clinton was a self made man, who worked his way up from the lower middle class to run the world.

Bush was handed everything by his rich powerful parents.

I bet you Republicans have more respect for Clinton with his hard work and ambition, than Bush and his silver spoon life, right? :)

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY - Everyone has a different amount of wealth
EQUAL RESULTS- Everybody is equally poor

Bill Clinton deserves some respect for his hard work, considering his background. However, I believe he will be remembered for betraying the trust of the American people. I wondered why the people closest to him were not surprised when the news broke about his lies. It seems many of his close associates knew what we were to learn later: bright mind but weak values.

G. Bush may not be as crafty as Clinton but I get the sense that he is a square shooter. Unlike the Clintons, who seem only to follow the whim of the moment, trying to stay one step ahead of truths that will damn them, Bush works from the heart and people feel that.

Comparing Clinton to Bush only benefits Bush.

Frank W and 12clicks: excellent observations!

There's a HUGE difference between parents handing down wealth to their children [or other forms of private transfer] and the GOVERNMENT distributing social resources to programs that do not work or trap people in dependency. My point re "Daddy's Money" is that there's nothing wrong with inheriting a huge amount of cash that you did not work for [GWB falls in this camp]. There IS something wrong and annoying with bragging about and showing off your inherited money when you did not sacrifice, work, or otherwise deserve that cash [this is the Daddy's Money syndrome]. But this is a minor quibble.

Bill Clinton was a "New Democrat"--he actually signed a lot of Republican initiatives [welfare reform being the most visible]. He was very different from the old 60's liberal Democrat that Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank embody. There's a lot to admire in his rise from the rural working class to Georgetown to Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford to Yale Law. It is easy to see that the man is articulate and bright. But like a sizeable portion of the population, I had issues with his credibility during the Lewinsky ordeal.

How can you compare Bush's morals to Clinton's? Bush was a never-do-well fuck up all through his school years. He was a cheerleader in college for christ sake! He was known as the campus dumb ass and we all know he had (has?) a liking for Coke and was an alcoholic (I'm willing to bet he and Barbara keep a drink in their hands at home.) He damn near fucked up his part of the family biz a few times and if Daddy wasn't the corrupt powerful bastard he is GW wouldn't have anything.

Clinton got his dick sucked. Who wouldn't have denied that when caught? Who gives a rat's ass if the man who guided us through the most prosperous time in our generation (that wasn't only led by tech) let someone suck his dick? I would have given him some of my women if he needed that!

Now you guys want to take up for this goofy character after he "Guided" our country through an imaginary war? This is madness. If he didn't have that his public opinion polls would still be in the shitter. But noooo, we praise him for wasting our money bombing dirt and fucking up the already messed up lives of the Afgani people. Not to mention speeding up the dissappearance of our collective privacy.

Go rent "Wag The Dog" next time you are in Blockbuster then tell me if it doesnt seem eerily similar to George Sr. & Jr..
