which one is the best?

I prefer Phpbb,, because it's easy to create a SE friendly versions of a board, admin is self explaining and performance even with loads of visitors is good. :2 cents:

I've used PHPBB in the past. Easy to customize. I even had my coder viralize the join sequence using a points system.

PHPbb for sure. Easy to manipulate (if you know PHP of course) and easy to admin (even if you're novice). :2 cents:
