Just in from Cardline.....Paypal Out of Adult?
EBAY WILL RESTRICT PAYPAL'S USE, ANALYST SAYS: Online auctioneer eBay Inc.'so acquisition of leading person-to-person service PayPal Inc. will "dampen PayPal's rapid growth across the internet," says Avivah Litan, vice president and research director at Gartner Research. That's because eBay likely will restrict use of PayPal to the eBay site, she says. Although 60% of Mountain View, CA-based PayPal's business comes from eBay, PayPal has been trying to move beyond auction sites to recruit small businesses and other non-auction merchants, both in the U.S. and abroad. "The credit card companies can breathe a temporary sigh of relief," Litan says. "PayPal is not going to become this ubiquitous alternative to credit card systems." Already, San Jose-based eBay has announced it will stop supporting online
gambling, "a big growth area" for PayPal, Litan says. Clay EPOCH - A Privately held adult processing company http://www.epochsystems.com/sales |
that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard...
hey, we own paypal now, let's fuck it up!! woohoo! =) |
how am i supposed to tip the hookers that Clay sends me at the conventions?!? damnit
;-) |
So you can only use Paypal to pay for Auctions? How messed up is that?
|
Damn. I was just in the midst of testing paypal out ... for alternative billing....
|
I received a call from Jeremy Downs yesterday... he assured me that nothing would change... they would continue to handle all of our cc processing for freshphotos etc...
peace greg |
so now all the cc processors are gonna try to scare everyone into signing up with them
first ibill kathy and now epoch who's next? ccbill? |
I would say that gambling sites are a much bigger concern to Paypal no matter who owns them at the moment
As for Paypal, I'd still consider it a decent alternative processor but I certainly wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket with anyone - |
I'm not trying to scare anyone, just sharing industry news. Stay with Paypal.

um I don't think anybody is that worried about it for processing but more so for the fact that you could send money without taking timeout to wire or fedex it... I hope that doesnt change :(

Yup. I just got off with Jeremy too. cool guy.
=) One thing that he said - was that buyout would probably take 6 mnths. Which you could read - even if they stop processing adult - ya got that lead time. But he doesn't think that will ever happen. |
Lensman, quit giving away cars & use the money to start your own Adult Paypal type service! :thumbsup

Never going to get used though. Paypal wasnt profitable doing mainstream and at their charges certainly wouldnt be profitable being adult only. |
With the market getting shittier you think that since paypal is growing in other areas that EBAY would allow this to continue!
I find it hard to believe EBAY would cut the profits of PayPal to a limited use of just an Auction. Looks like we still have the dumb fucks as CEO's in corporate america!:321GFY |

Hey Mr Epoch I can't get your stats page to load...
|
Ebay already make plenty of money with adult videos, dvds, wacko shit like panties, I fully understand them getting out of the casinos though.
On a side note, Amex is reigning back paypal more each month and its not something they are discussing with paypal they are just stopping transactions. They imposed a limit a few months back and they cut it again this month. No doubt visa and mastecard are watching the situation. |

Paypal will not leave the adult industry, if it does there will be another company providing the same exact service that will quickly replace them

There have been a lot of mandated changes to PayPal's systems because of the companies like the Quasi Cash option so they can flag it as a cash advance (which by they way you cant select if you are not US/Canada). Besides what we all like to think, adult is just not big enough. I remember seeing what IBill were processing in a year listed in the announcement when they were bought and PayPal was already doing 10 times that and not profitable. And for those that dont think that PayPal will stop doing adult, I would think again. Ebay still has around 60% of payments for auctions being made by cheque or money order. If they can tightly integrate PayPal into the process and get that extra 60% they will be doing very nicely. Also, it will probably allieviate alot of card issuer troubles as you could then argue that they are not agregating merchant accounts which is what both Visa and Mastercard are trying to stamp out at the moment without running into Anti Trust issues. As I have said before, here in Australia and in alot of other countries you couldnt operate a CCBill/IBill/PayPal without breaching card scheme rules. Now you may get away with not having your merchant account terminated it by tying things up in courts on antitrust related issues but it isnt cheap to do that. This transaction solves PayPals problem of having to try and become profitable while fixing Ebays Billpoint stuffup. There is no motivation that I can see for Ebay to want to own a PayPal type offering and keep it seperate. Jayson |

I used tokensystems myself but I think they were too worried about ridding the world of free content/tgp/ tour sites and etc. I like PayPal and Ive used it a lot. Hell they sent me a couple of their nifty credit cards. But I bet ya after they nuke gambling they will turn the screws to adult sites. I couldnt help but respond to your rhetorical question of whos stepping forward with the adult version of paypal. I think Ive got an answer but its not quite along the model that paypal has followed. What we are doing is prepaid. Our focus is on gambling and adult sites. We are trying to allow is a way for those folks that want to spend the cash on adult content or gaming to be able to spend that cash and remain anonymous. I wont turn this into a long commercial but just say that we are starting to pre register webmasters and their sites now for the Sept. launch. If your interested in see what we are up to come over to the site and check it out and register so you can get the better portal placement. The site is www.6card.com any questions anyone feel free to email me [email protected] |
