Registry Mechanic nearly fucked up a machine I tried on, make sure you make a backup of the registry before using it.

But really, there's nothing like a format and fresh install to clean up the registry. ;)

true, i use it but it is not a true registry cleaner.

i'm also interested in something that works to clean the registry, but does not kill the machine.

a free mooch utility that works with no spyware would be nice.
