i fucking hate wordpress (creative spam involved)
 

am i the only one out here? i've been fiddling around with wordpress all night, and i just can't see why everybody is so stoked on this pain in the ass script. with what i know it would take me a week to design an even halfassed wordpress site, where using pretty simple html and an easy install of babelogger i can design and fully automate a pretty decent blog in a night.

is it just because its free? i mean i far prefer the simplicity of babelogger for my blogs, everything goes nice and smoothly, and there's very little to keep track of. i'd much rather drop the 50 bucks on babelogger any day. maybe i'm just an idiot and can';t wrap my head around wordpress, but i'm pretty sure that judging by alot of blogs i've seen, i'm in no different boat than most bloggers. i can't be bothered to go through the effort involved in designing my own wordpress theme, and i can't bring myself to use a free template like virtually everyone else does either...

sorry but i just have to vent my frustration with this giant pain in the ass.

meh, i hardly read half of it when i bought the script, but it seems to do everything i wanted it to do quite well. i'd like to figure out if i can run rss feeds through it yet though, which was my original inention for using wordpress, but i can't be bothered by it now....

Can you toss me the cliffs notes on what it DOES do? You mentioned RSS feeds .. if you just want a "one time" population of some blog with a bunch of feeds, I'd be happy to use Autoblogger Pro to do that for you .... no charge.

i'm currently looking into whether or not i can run feeds into my sites with babelogger. i don't think its a go though. i intend on running SEVERAL autofed sites if i can find a reasonable way to do so...

what it does do for me? it allows me to take a bare bones html design and stick in an easily updated blog with a functioning comment system, gallery rating system, user registration, and the ability for users and other webmasters to submit galleries to me. there are several other features which i don't even use. i like babelogger for it's simplicity, functionality, and ease of use. it takes me a few hours of photoshop time, about 15-20 minutes to cut up my psd file and scrap up some html, and another 10 or so minutes to ftp everything to my host and setup my templates. bang, blog is in action...

i even have reasonable understanding of stylesheets and wordpress gives me a fucking headache. i spent about 4 hours playing with wordpress, before i decided to toss her in the recycle bin, and even at that point i had very little worth looking at...


EDIT: babelogger also automatically generates your own rss feed, forgot to add that to my list of functions that i use...

Eh, I just use Autoblogger Pro for that. The new version (standalone) comes out tomorrow.

Very interesting! Thanks for the summary. I use Wordpress (and populate the WP blogs with Autoblogger Pro Standalone) to do what you're talking about here. I don't find it particularly difficult, but I've invested some time in learning the Wordpress system. Definitely not for amateurs if they want to maximize what it can do. Maybe a system like this one is perfect for the smaller blogger and the blogger who doesn't want to sift through a "big boy" system until they've gotten their feet wet.

I mean, there are some people out there blogging who don't even know how to set up cron, so maximizing what WordPress can do is for SURE way over their head. :winkwink:

i can see alot of potential in using wordpress for autoupdated rss fed sites, but for the hand-updated blogs i'm working on now, babelogger is the perfect solution.

if it comes down to it i'll just deal with using shitty wp-themes on my autofed sites. i just find it incredibly difficult to take any of my sites designs at the moment and to cut them into wordpress. I'm sure i will find wordpress alot more useful after i invest some more time into it myself, but i am diggin' the simplicity of babelogger right now.

i plan on offering my rss feeds for my viewers, haven't really considered opening it up to partnerships yet...

ABP stand alone will be nice, cant wait to see what AEB is though :)

For sure, WP can be IMPROVED, but I would not go so far as to say it "sucks" -- it's better than a lot of the shit out there.

I would like to see a ABP type app for babeblogger... That woud be SWEET!
