How much $$$ does posting on message boards really put in your pocket or ...

... how much $$$ are you losing because you're just wasting time?

Everybody posts for different reasons.

Some people post to blow off steam in between taking care of biz.

Some post to get their name out and sell their affiliate program, content or services.

Can you really account for how posting affects your bottom line positively or negatively?

Jace 10-31-2006 01:50 AM

I post when I am bored and in between things on my todo list

I make enough to buy a nice new toy once a month, last month I bought a dvcam, this month I am buying a nice lens for my camera

I would imagine posting affects my bottom line negatively, but if it wasn't posting it would be something else, my attention span is pretty short...

J$tyle$ 10-31-2006 01:24 PM

I guess it's easier to determine on the positive side for me. When someone contacts me and says "Hey, I saw your post on ________ and blah, blah, blah" I can put an actual $ value on certain posts ... epecially when I post a new thread with a particular offer like http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=670773

i do see clicks from my sig in my stats from individual posts too, of course - but those i can't quite quantify.

Bottom line though is I know i'm making money when posting every week and that posting has definitely helped brand my content business since I see lots of direct type-ins every day.

:2 cents:

chucky27 10-31-2006 01:47 PM

im still getting est. so i am just raising my awareness 2 others

starpimps 10-31-2006 02:40 PM

i post when im absolutely done everything for the day. But sometimes i get sidetracked with work cause of gfy

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-31-2006 02:57 PM

yeah, posting is hurting my money, I'm trying to cut down on it, like what starpimps is doing, make sure all my work for the day is done before posting, but it also helps me get some contacts, I've met a lot of people because of GFY and i won't say its a bad thing to be posting here.

seeric 10-31-2006 02:58 PM

i make 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 a year selling my sig to satan.

gfy is a mastermind plan to keep competition busy fighting over nonsense so lens can keep on taking over the web.

if you're here fighting and LOLing you cant make loot.

lol.

conspiracy theory 11

hahahahahahaha

After Shock Media 10-31-2006 03:16 PM

It has saved me a lot of money I would of spent on a shrink, while I still can multi task and do work.
It has allowed me to build up a huge network contact base which has more than paid off.
It has allowed me to avoid being pissed off for no reason and starting a fight with my woman.
It has saved me money on entertainment expenses.
It has allowed me to type a super sick number of total words over the past few years. If you or anyone else follows my posting structure, I tend to ramble and make very long posts.
It has allowed me to help many others who also made themselves or others money. Since we all pay each other within one to three degrees of separation I am sure I got some of my money from it one way or another.

borked 10-31-2006 03:23 PM

I'd say it makes all the difference for me - whenever I have a big job coming to a close, I hit the boards and there'll always be a few quicky scripts to do and keep at it for a couple of weeks and then a biggy comes along to keep me busy for another month or two.

As you said, each has their own reasons.

Lykos 10-31-2006 03:24 PM

It helps to make your name and sell your services i think

but what if you have no services to sell?

I made a name but what? no direct benefit, Im not even a sales rep. lol

But overall on the one hand GFY still makes me some money ( not only sig money obviously ), on the other it costs time so I waste a lot of my time here.... and time is money :Oh crap

marketsmart 10-31-2006 03:36 PM

posting does take away from time you could be working...

Dead on as usual. I couldn't agree more.

bauhaus 10-31-2006 03:54 PM

This board actually allowed me to meet the J$tyles guy.... and meeting you has made me some decent $$$$...so what can I say. Plus you always make me feel a little younger.

As well in all honesty I have had like 10 serious inquiries into my signature. I think I actually took one design job for $100 *keep in mind I didn't have photoshop installed but I tried my damn best in Windows Paint* Some people really want to know more about the Insane, Color and Instant Sensation aspect of my completely drug induced signature.

*Ignore anything I just said..I am currently offering a 50% discount on all design work...... files will be sent back in HD quality .bmp files*

Long Live $tyles!!!

bauhaus 10-31-2006 03:58 PM

Bump....

Just Realized I MIGHT hit 700 posts...before 6yrs on the board.

SIG SPOT!!!!!!

Contact me for Sig Spot and High Def Design Work.

Violetta 10-31-2006 04:03 PM

I post when I upload stuff and when I am bored! + I get payed to do it!

Libertine 10-31-2006 04:16 PM

I have about $2k a month derived directly from posting on GFY. I probably "lose" about as much in wasted time, but then again, I also "lose" money watching movies, reading books, taking walks or showering.

Hard to say. I think you hit a critical mass at some point, maybe at around X thousand posts.

Spunky 10-31-2006 05:48 PM

I come for the entertainment and to wind down from the day..It kills time and it is profitable :glugglug

tranza 10-31-2006 05:54 PM

At least $500 a month from my sig plus $2,000 on new customers for my submiting services (around 5 customers).

YARGH!

I agree with this post, I used to shy away from the boards. Even though I did well without them, being on them has made me a very nice sum, and I've met some really great people here that otherwise I wouldn't have. Win win all around.

VicD 10-31-2006 06:09 PM

I post to learn the bizz and make some money too :)

NoWhErE 10-31-2006 06:55 PM

Since I offer a service, the boards have made me alot of money

jimthefiend 10-31-2006 07:03 PM

It's cathartic, plus I make a buttload of money most of the time.

BradShaw 10-31-2006 08:29 PM

I have made millions off the boards... literally.

BitAudioVideo 10-31-2006 09:10 PM

ive made a lot of great contacts and gained some customers.

ive helped my customers make a boatload of money and ive managed to make a decent living at the same time.

i think of all my clients as partners. i strive to provide quality affordable encoding. if my customers make good money off of the work that i do then they generally have more work for me.

ForteCash 10-31-2006 09:14 PM

3 new affiliates and 60 new sales this week alone! :thumbsup

Miguel T 10-31-2006 09:15 PM

Hey, we need to catch up!

Kimo 10-31-2006 10:42 PM

negativly effects my bottom line, but its better that i dont work 24/7 anyway, and posting is a decent break

cspdinc 10-31-2006 10:45 PM

its therapy for me plain and simple, but I DO get a lot of good leads and tips from searches, stuff i could never find without GFY.

WWC 10-31-2006 10:57 PM

Boards are like conventions....meeting place....posting may not bring direct business but rather more importantly brand yourself and your company/products...but if boards are a place of dependability for one to succeed or make money than thats not a good sign.......

ps: are you coming to golf on Nov 8 by the way?

GTS Mark 10-31-2006 11:02 PM

I built my business off GFY :)

I agree to a large extent.

However, I've done a couple million in content sales over the past few years as a direct result of board posting so I honestly do depend on message boards to contribute to my success.

We've known each other for 10 years, dawg - between you and I, you have to admit that GFY has contributed greatly to WWC and WWF's sucess to a large degree. Granted you advertise and sponsor events but credit where credit is due, right?

:winkwink:

BTW - no golf for me ... never got into it although one day I intend to :thumbsup

Yes, of course GFY has helped my businesses ( the only board i actually post on now ) but i would'nt say " contributed greatly..." but alot yes... actually we only have small banners on gfy never big ones, i post mostly for fun here to hang with my friends , clients, etc.....we bring majority of our business in other ways of marketing...

WiredGuy 10-31-2006 11:55 PM

My sig revenue attributed under 1% of my income.
WG

marko13 11-01-2006 12:01 AM

i post on boards to be update with information.... and everything that comes with that i don;t count it....

Babaganoosh 11-01-2006 12:03 AM

I'm far too cool to sell my sig...unless pie has an affiliate program that I wasn't informed of. I've never sold my sig and probably never will...unless someone makes me one great fucking offer.

sandman! 11-01-2006 12:09 AM

i have pulled plenty of biz from this board but most people i do biz with dont spend much time on the boards.

Paul Markham 11-01-2006 12:13 AM

Iv think it depends on the poster and what he has to offer.

Many here are surfers with little, I should code the link to the paysite and prove that theory.

Many are people submitting galleries and living on the edge.

Some are true business men like yourself JStyles$.

But I think over the last year to 18 months the boards have become less relevant.

Just look at the spams for affiliates going on, looks a bit desperate to me for some of them. I know we got little from our meagre try.
